CIVIC ENGAGEMENT
Applications to tutor elementary school aged children enrolled in the America Reads Program and middle school children enrolled in the America Counts Program will be ac-cepted on a rolling basis until Sept. 10th. Tutor training starts the week of the 13th and sessions begin the week of the 20th. To apply and for the America Reads schedule go to

Between now and May 31st, Administration officials will be participating in 100 Roundtables with Young Americans all across the country. Host one in your community, and if you’d like - ask someone from the Administration to participate A few weeks ago, when President Obama dropped by a Round-table with Young Americans in Cleveland, Ohio, he announced that he was tasking his Administration with participating in 100 Roundtables all over the country. Over the last 2 weeks, the White House Office of Public Engagement has put together a great initiative to assure that young Americans of all walks of life can participate in a roundtable! Host a roundtable in your community and if you’d like someone from the Administration to join, let them know when and where your roundtable will be by submitting your information at www.WhiteHouse.gov/YoungAmericans
Global Playground is a public charity, incorporated in New York in May 2006. We are com-mitted to funding the education of children in developing countries by giving them opportunities to learn. We are also committed to promoting cross-cultural understanding by creating a virtual play-ground where students from all parts of the world can learn and interact with each other. We be-lieve strongly that these efforts are the most promising means to eliminating poverty, violence, and intolerance in our world. In it’s four years of existence, we have completed construction of a technology center equipped with 8 computers in Honduras and are working to facilitate cross-cultural exchanges among the students at our project sites, among other things. Position Description: Global Playground’s 2011 summer intern will have six responsibilities: 1. To assist in coordinating Global Playground’s Fellows program in Thailand and Honduras. This includes: compiling/revising a training manual, assisting in the actual training, and coordinating lo-gistics. 2. To oversee summer video exchange project between students at Global Playground-affiliated schools. 3. To promote, and research opportunities (such as conferences, conventions, and meetings of profes-sional organizations) for Global Playground to promote, the opportunity for teachers and schools in the United States to fund and engage in ongoing cross-cultural dialogue with children at Global Play-ground’s project sites abroad. 4. To research sites for future Global Playground projects. 5. To work alongside of the Executive Director to further the mission of Global Playground. 6. To provide ad hoc administrative support. Time Commitment: - Estimated hours per week: 20 Qualifications: - Creativity, maturity, flexibility, sense of humor, and ability to work independently with personal initiative. - Meticulous attention to detail. - Interest in children’s issues, in particular, education. - Passion for nonprofit work and advancing education in developing countries. - Proficient in Mi-crosoft Word and Excel. Rotary Peace Fellows are leaders promoting national and international cooperation, peace, and the successful reso-lution of conflict throughout their lives, in their careers, and through service activities. Fellows can earn either a master’s degree in international relations, public admini-stration, sustainable development, peace studies, conflict resolution, or a related field, or a professional develop-ment certificate in peace and conflict resolution.

Eligibility criteria
A strong commitment to international understanding and peace demonstrated through professional and academic achievements and personal and community service activities
A bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience as a minimum, with strong academic achievement
A minimum of three years’ combined paid or unpaid full-time relevant work experience (master’s degree) or five years’ relevant work experience with cur-rent full-time employment in a mid- to upper-level position (professional de-velopment certificate)
Proficiency in a second language (master’s degree) or in English (professional development certificate)
Strong leadership skills
