COST program
COST (COoperation in Science and Technology)
- Pan-European, bottom-up science and technology networks open to researchers, industry and policy stakeholders;
- was the first and is one of the widest intergovernmental European Network for coordination of nationally funded scientific and technical research;
- institutions and researchers from 38 COST member countries can join and develop COST Action;
- institutions and researchers from non-COST countries can join COST Action on a case by case basis once the mutual benefit has been ascertained, without the need for any formal arrangements at government or agency level.

COST program’s role
Precursor of advanced multidisciplinary research;
Complements the activities of the Framework Programmes;
Acts as a “bridge” spanning the scientific communities of the whole Europe;
Increases the mobility of researchers across Europe and in whole world;
Fosters the establishment of large Framework Programme projects in different research fields;
Covers both basic and more applied or technological research and addresses issues of a societal importance.

COST actions
COST Action is a network of researchers, industry representatives and policy stakeholders;
Duration up to 4 years;
Minimum of 7 COST Member Countries;
For average of 19 COST Member Countries -
average annual budget of EUR 129 000;
Cooperation through different networking tools:
- Meetings (Management Committee, Working
Groups),
- Short-term Scientific Missions,
- Training schools,
- Publications & dissemination activities.

Who can participate?
Participation is open to researchers, engineers, specialists:
in universities, research centers, large and small, public and private organizations from all COST Member Countries and its Cooperating State,
from any science and technology field,
at any career stage,
having any original, innovative idea

How to join running COST action?
1. As a Management Comittee (MC) Member
– By contacting COST National Coordinator in order to be one (of the maximum two) MC members representing your Country,
2. as a Working Group Participant:
– By contacting you respective MC member and or the Action Chair and participate in the Working Groups
