    1. WATER HAUL TANK USER INSTRUCTIONS

Filling the Water Haul TankFollowing are instructions for correct operation of the Cowater water delivery system.

    1. Take the haul vehicle and get the water haul trailer. Leave the outlet valve open until reaching the pumphouse. Fasten the blower securely in place and be sure that hoses and extension cords are secure.

    2. Drive to the pump house and park the haul tank close to the pump house water hose.

    3. Put the pump house hose into the fill port of the haul tank and turn on the water. Allow a little water to runout of the tank outlet before closing the outlet valve. This will ensure that the outlet pipe is clean and that thevalve is thawed out in cold weather. Be prepared to turn off the water when the water tank is full.

    4. Close the outlet valve and fill the tank.5. Remove the pump house hose and place the dust cap on the fill port. There must always be a dustcap on the fill port to prevent contamination from entering the water tank, as well as to developpressure in the tank when delivering water.

    6. Ensure that blower hoses and extension cords are secure and drive to the first house to be filled.

Delivering Water to the House1. Connect the water delivery hose to the haul tank. Remove the dust plug from the fill pipe at the house.Uncoil the water delivery hose and connect it to the fill pipe.

    2. Connect the blower hose to the blower port.

    3. Open the outlet valve on the haul tank. Plug the blower into the GFI protected outlet on the house or thesewage holding tank and ensure that water is flowing to the house. Watch the overflow pipe carefully.

    4. As soon as water flows from the overflow pipe unplug the blower. If the inside tank was empty, it willtake the whole load without oveflowing.

    5. Disconnect the blower hose. Disconnect the water delivery hose from the house taking care not to letthe hose ends touch anything that may contaminate them. Connect the two ends of the hose together toprevent contamination of the hose while traveling and place it on the hose rack on the trailer. In warmweather you may connect the hose end to the dustcap fitting.

    6. In cold weather, the water haul tank should be drained of all remaining water: (i) close the outlet valve,(ii) disconnect the water delivery hose, and (iii) open the outlet valve to drain the tank, with the back of thetrailer kept low. In cold weather the outlet valve should always be left open during storage.

    7. Drain the disconnected water delivery hose.

    8. Coil the water hose on its rack. Coil up the extension cord. Ensure that all hoses and cords are secure.Drive back to the pump house for the next load.

Storing the Water Haul TankIf the haul tank is to be left for any period of time, especially in freezing weather, it must be thoroughlydrained. Any remaining water in the haul tank must be drained with the back of the trailer kept low.The water hose must be thoroughly drained by disconnecting and progressively raising the entire lengthof the hose until all of the water has run out.In cold weather the valve may be frozen up in the open position. However, as soon as you start fillingthe tank the water will thaw the valve and it can be closed.

Preventing and Troubleshooting Valve Freeze-ups1. In really cold weather, the water valve may be left slightly open to allow water to dribble out and prevent freeze-up between filling and delivering water at a house.2. If the water valve accidentally freezes up with a tank full of water it may be thawed by:

    i) Pouring warm water on the valve.ii) Using a blow torch (caution advised).

    2. USING THE WATER BLOWER

TO DELIVER WATER TO HOMES:• Connect one end of the blower hose to the blower and the other end to the fitting on

the top of the water haul tank.• Make sure that the dustcap of the water haul tank fill port is on and tight.• Connect one end of the fill hose to the water haul tank (fitting at the end of the ball

valve) and the other end to the fill pipe on the house.• Plug the blower to an 110V outlet.• The progress can be seen through the sight glasses on the water haul tank.• Keep the blower running until water comes out of the overflow pipe on the house.• Unplug the blower.• Disconnect the fill hose from the house, coil it on the rack and connect to the

dustcap on the rack. In really cold weather, disconnect and drain the hose and openthe valve on the tank to prevent freezing.

NOTE:Water blower must be tied down safely on the trailer with the strap supplied.

    3. SEWAGE HAUL TANK USER INSTRUCTIONS

Emptying The Sewage Holding Tank(Filling The Sewage Haul Tank)Always wear protective clothing (coveralls, gloves, and rubberized shoes) when operating thesewage haul equipment. This clothing should be used only for this purpose. It should be removedand hands should be thoroughly washed before eating or going on to other work, such as deliveringwater.

    1. Park the sewage haul tank near the tank to be emptied. Ensure that the dump hose is securely attachedto the dustcap on the trailer.

    2. Open the door on the sewage holding tank, un-cap the sewage connection and connect the sewage fillhose. If you are using the stale air return hose, it should also be connected at this time.

    3. Connect the vacuum blower hose to the vacuum port on the haul tank. Plug the blower into the electricaloutlet on the sewage holding tank and start the vacuum blower.

    4. The tank will empty in 4 to 6 minutes. The hose will become light and you will hear the vacuum motorchange its tone and run faster when the holding tank is empty. Turn off the vacuum blower. You must watchthe sight glasses on the haul tank. If you overfill it, the vacuum will suck sewage into the blower.

    5. Make sure the sewage fill hose is empty of sewage by lifting it in the center for a couple of seconds sothat all sewage drains out of the hose. It is important to completely empty the sewage hose beforedisconnecting it in order to avoid spillage.

    6. Disconnect the sewage and blower hoses and the stale air hose. Replace the camlock caps on thesewage holding tank, and close the door.

    7. Coil the sewage fill hose on the rack and cap it so sewage cannot leak out while you are travelling to thelagoon. Ensure that the blower and cord are secured to the haul vehicle.

Dumping the Sewage1. Drive the haul trailer to the lagoon alongside the dump point, or back the trailer to the dump point.

    2. Disconnect the dump hose from the dustcap and disconnect the safety chain. Lay the dump hose on theground so that the sewage runs into the lagoon. The dump hose should be handled with caution as thesewage may splash if dropped prematurely.

    3. Open the vacuum port on top of the haul tank to let air in.

    4. When the tank is empty, reconnect the dump hose to the dustcap, secure it with the safety chain. Closethe vacuum port. NOTE: See sketch below for safety chain. It is exteremely important to use it toprevent spillage in case the hose comes loose from the dustcap.

    5. Go to the next tank to be emptied. It is important that loads be dumped after each house so there is norisk of overfilling the haul tank. Never empty two household tanks in one load.

Storing the Sewage Haul TankWhen all of the holding tanks have been emptied and the haul tank has been thoroughly drained at thedump site, take the trailer back to its parking place and park it in a front down position. This will ensurethat the dump hose does not freeze up.

    4. USING THE VACUUM BLOWER

    1. TO EMPTY HOLDING TANKS AT HOMES:

    • Connect Vacuum port of Vacuum Blower to the fitting on the top of the sewage haul tank.

    • At the house, connect the sewage fill hose from the haul tank to the sewage holding tank.

Some sewage holding tanks from previous installations had valves built into them for usewhen emptying them with a blower. When using the vacuum method DO NOT CLOSEANY VALVES ON THE SEWAGE HOLDING TANKS AT THE HOUSE. They mustbe left open so the tank can get air as you evacuate the sewage from the tank.

    • Plug the Vacuum Blower into the electrical outlet inside the door of the sewage holding tankand turn it on.

    • When the sewage is all out of the holding tank you will hear a change in the sound of theblower motor as it runs freely just pumping air. Unplug the vacuum blower.

    • Before you disconnect the fill hose, lift the hose overhead at the mid point between the haultank and the holding tank to make sure any sewage in the hose drains back into the holdingtank or into the haul tank.

    • Disconnect sewage fill hose and store it on the haul trailer.

    2. USING THE STALE AIR HOSE

    • The discharge from the vacuum blower is usually very foul smelling and obnoxious. The stale air hose is used to return this foul air to the sewage holding tank so the atmosphere is not fouled. To do this:

    • Connect one end of the stale air hose to the blower port of the vacuum blower, and the other end to the ¾” fitting on the sewage holding tank.

    NOTE:

The stainless steel reservoir on the bottom of the vacuum blower will collect liquid from themoist air it sucks from the sewage. Therefore, it should be removed and emptied every day.

    COWATER VACUUM BLOWER MAINTENANCE

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT THE CONDENSATION RESERVOIRBE CHECKED DAILY

When the vacuum blower is used to empty sewage holding tanks, the suction hose is connected to thesewage haul tank and the vacuum blower creates a vacuum in the haul tank. This pulls the sewage fromthe holding tank into the haul tank. During this process, the vacuum blower draws warm moist air fromthe haul tank. The liquid that condenses out of this moist air is collected in the stainless steelcondensation reservoir.

Normally only a quarter of a cup or so of liquid is collected in reservoir from one pump-out.

If the stainless steel reservoir is allowed to become full of liquid, the condensation has nowhere tocollect and the vacuum blower will blow this condensed sewage out the blower port, contaminatinganything it strikes -including the haul operator.

To remove the condensation reservoir, simply loosen the latches (by pulling them up, see the photo onthe cut-sheet) that hold the stainless steel reservoir in place until all four of them are lose and remove thereservoir. Empty the liquid from the reservoir and remove any particles that have collected on thestrainer that is fastened to the bottom of the blower unit (to keep the strainer from becoming clogged). It is preferable that this be done at the lagoon so the sewage from the condensation reservoir can bedisposed of in the lagoon.
