Stitch Length Dial
Depending on your selected stitch, you may need toadjust the stitch length for best results. The numbers marked on the Stitch length dial repre-sent the length of the stitch in millimeters (mm).THE HIGHER THE NUMBER, THE LONGER THESTITCH.The “O” setting does not feed the material. This isused for sewing on a button. The “F” area is used for making a Satin Stitch (a closezigzag stitch) which can be used in making button-holes and decorative stitches. The position neededfor making the Satin Stitch varies according to thematerial and thread being used. To determine theexact dial position, you should first test the stitch andlength settings on a scrap of fabric to observe thefeeding of the material.

Twin Needle Sewing
Your sewing machine is designed for twin needlesewing, which allows you to sew with two top threads. You can use the same color or two different colors ofthread for making decorative stitches. Any of thepatterns, except the buttonhole pattern, can be sewnwith the twin needle. When using the Straight Stitch, the Stitch Width Dial should be set so that the needleis in the center position (between 2 and 3). However, when other patterns are used, set the Stitch WidthDial between 0 and 3. See page 11 for details onadjusting the Stitch Width Dial.
CAUTION:When sewing with the twin needle, be sure the StitchWidth Dial is not set above 3 since this may cause theneedle to hit the needle plate and break.
INSERTING THE TWIN NEEDLEInsert in the same way a single needle is inserted(refer to page 6). The flat side of the needle shouldface toward the back and the rounded side shouldface toward you.
PLACING THE EXTRA SPOOL PINPlace the vertical spool pin in the hole found on topof the machine near the horizontal spool pin. Placethe second spool of thread onto the vertical spool pinas shown in fig. A.
TWIN NEEDLE THREADINGEach needle should be threaded separately.1. Threading the Right Needle
Follow the same instructions for single needlethreading using the thread from the spool on theextra spool pin. See page 16 for more details.
2. Threading the Left NeedleThread the left needle in the same manner thatthe right needle was threaded, but do not pass thethread through the thread guide above the needlebefore passing it through the eye of the left needleas shown below in fig. B.
1 Right needle thread passes through thisguide.
2 Left needle thread in front of this guide.

Thread Tension
Thread tension will affect the quality of your stitches. It may need to be adjusted when you change fabricor thread type.
NOTE:It is recommended that a test sample be made on afabric scrap before sewing on your project.
Possible misadjustments and their results.A Upper tension is too tight.
Locks appear on the surface of the fabric.
A-1 Upper Tension Control DialDecrease the tension by turning the dial to alower number.
B Upper tension is too loose.Locks appear on the reverse side of the fabric.
B-1 Upper Tension Control DialIncrease the tension by turning the dial to ahigher number.
1 Reverse2 Surface
NOTE:Lower thread tension has already been adjusted forgeneral use at the factory. For most sewing applica-tions no adjustment is needed. However, when sewing with thin thread on thinfabrics, the thread tension can not be adjustedenough with the Upper Tension Control Dial. There-fore, the thread tension can be adjusted according tothe procedure below.I. Lower tension is too loose.
Locks appear on the surface of the fabric.Decrease the thread tension by turning the dialto a lower number. If the result is still not satis-factory then adjust the bobbin thread tension asshown below.
I-1 BOBBINIncrease the tension in the bobbin by turning thescrew with the enclosed small screwdriver in aclockwise direction, however, do not turn thescrew more than one full turn.Remember to return the screw to the originalsetting before starting your next project.
