36658-751-16Safety Instructions and Information
April 16, 2009
Dr. Klausgrete Drawing No.
Designation
Revision 00
These safety instructions apply to the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of the equipment.
The numbers given in parentheses are the position numbers on page 1.
1. The power supply (1), control panel (2) and the scale/weigh cell (3) may be used only in this combination and only as non-portable equipment in zone 2.
2. As an alternative to power supply (1), an alternative power supply source (7) may be used, provided that it does not exceed the maximum ratings of 30 V and 1 A.
3. As an alternative to scale/weigh cell (3) of type PMA7501.-Y (KEMA 05ATEX1248X), a different scale or weigh cell may be used if it is designed according to type of explosion protection Ex n and is approved for gas group IIB and temperature class T4, and its power supply inputs may be loaded with a voltage of up to 30V and a current of up to 1A.
4. The equipment must be installed by an authorized specialist in compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, ordinances and standards. In particular, be sure to conform to the European Standard EN 60079-14 (Electrical apparatus for use in potentially explosive gas atmospheres).
5. Be sure to follow the installation, operating, maintenance and servicing instructions given in the manuals supplied.
6. Use the equipment only within the temperature range specified. Do not expose the equipment to any impermissible sources of heat or cold, sunlight or vibration. Be sure that the equipment is installed so that sufficient heat dissipation can take place all around the equipment and that the equipment is sufficiently spaced apart from external heat sources.
7. Protect the power cable (4) from damage and properly connect it to the power supply (120 or 230 Vac; be sure to check that the rating on the power supply is appropriate for the line voltage/mains supply of your country). The power supply is permitted for circuits up to 1,500 A. Use the power cable inside the hazardous area/location only with the approved explosion-protected plug. Alternative: Secure the plug from becoming disconnected or directly connect the cable to the equipment; in the latter case, be sure to provide an emergency off switch.
8. For the power cable (4), supply cable (5) and the data cable (6), make sure to use suitable cabling with regard to the applicable zone classification, type of installation, electrical load and mechanical stress, provided that these cables are notalready supplied with the equipment. The equipment operator shall be responsible and liable for the safety of cables supplied by manufacturers other than Sartorius.
9. All metal parts (housing) must be electrically connected to the terminal for the equipotential bonding conductor (PA) (9).The equipment operator is obligated to connect a lead with a gauge of at least 4 mm² (cross section) to the PA terminal in a suitable location. For this purpose, fasteners (screws) may be used. The low resistance of this connection to the PA busbar must be checked when the system is installed at the intended place of use. The equipment operator shall be responsible and liable for preventing static electricity.
10. Secure connections (8) from becoming disconnected (for example, use the safety retainers supplied). Seal the unused connections (8) so that IP protection is ensured.
11. Before opening the equipment, turn off the power or ensure that the area does not have a potentially explosive atmosphere. Inside the hazardous area, do not connect or disconnect cables under load!
12. If the equipment does not operate properly, unplug it immediately from line power (mains supply)!
13. Prevent the effects of stray current (e.g., caused by magnetic fields) by ensuring suitable installation.
14. Keep chemicals that can corrode the housing seals and cable sheaths away from the equipment. These include oil, grease, benzene, chlorinated and aromatic solvents, caustics and acids, acetone and ozone. If you are not sure about the safety of a certain substance, please contact the manufacturer.
15. At reasonable intervals, have your equipment installation checked for proper functioning and safety by a specialist trained and certified for this purpose.
16. If your equipment needs to be repaired, use only original spare parts supplied by the manufacturer.
17. Any tampering with the equipment by anyone, other than repair work performed by authorized Sartorius personnel, will result in the loss of EX conformity for zone 2 and in the forfeiture of all claims under the manufacturer's warranty. Only authorizedspecialists may open the equipment.
18. Modifications, including those to be carried out by Sartorius employees, may be permitted only after express written authorization has been obtained from Sartorius.
