NOTE
The minimum undercut (thread runout) g depends on:
■ the rolling head size,
■ the thread pitch and
■ the thread roll lead.
1. Read off the rolling head size from the front plate of the rolling system.
2. Determine the thread pitch.
3. Determine the thread roll lead b.
NOTE
The thread roll lead b denotes the number of teeth that are in front of a full-profile tooth.
We distinguish between b = 1 K and b = 2 K.
The thread roll lead is shown in Fig. 13 Thread roll startup 1 K and Fig. 14 Thread roll startup 2 K.

5.1.2 Surface finish
NOTE
Only note the surface finish in the burnishing rolling process.
The larger the roughness value, the better the rolling result.
5.2 Setting the process variables
IMPORTANT
With all rolling processes, ensure that sufficient and suitable residence time for opening the rolling system is maintained.
The subchapter of the chapter 5.2 Setting the process variables does not apply to the rolling processes
■ forming of pipes and
■ reducing.
Adjust the process variables calculated in the subchapters depending on
■ machine conditions,
■ structure of the workpiece,
■ rolling head,
■ profile shape and

5.3 Fine adjustment of the rolling system
The fine adjustment is used to adjust the rolling system to the diameter of the workpiece. The adjusting
spindle is used for the fine adjustment.
The adjusting spindle is used via the hole in the rolling system housing. When using the adjusting spindle,
move the rolls to or away from the workpiece.
At the bore is a double-headed arrow. The arrow heads are marked with “+” and “–” and specify the “+” and
“–” direction of rotation.
There are two scales on the rolling system housing. The two scales indicate the same value. The scales are
used to read off the adjusted value of the fine adjustment.
The legend at the hole shows that one line on the scale corresponds to 0,1 mm/0.004“ workpiece diameter.
Fig. 16 Fine adjustment with scale, hole, direction or rotation and legend shows the fine adjustment on the rolling system housing.

Scale on the rolling system housing
■ One mark on the scale ≈ 0,1 mm/0.004“ diameter.
■ Half a mark on the scale ≈ 0,05 mm/0.002“ diameter.
■ Quarter mark on the scale ≈ 0,025 mm/0.001“ diameter.
Angle of rotation of the hexalobular screwdriver
Determine how many degrees you need to rotate the hexalobular screwdriver so that the fine adjustment is
adjusted by one mark on the scale:
■ ≈ One line on the scale.
■ ≈ 0,1 mm/0.004“ workpiece diameter.
■
__ 2
≈ 0,05 mm/0.002“ workpiece diameter.
