Hello PRYC,

Well, we did it! One of the best Opening Days ever! the entire day was terrific! The club looked amazing thanks to the best team of volunteers. The food was the best of the day, Tri-tip cooked to perfection. Music for the

ceremony was provided by the Calle Mayor Middle School Swingin’ Sailors Jazz Band, the best middle school band in California. This band kept the ceremony rocking. They had just returned from a very special performance at Carnegie Hall in NYC only two days before performing at PRYC’s Opening Day. Director Tim Nail has kept the band beautifully prepared for five-years running.

For the first time we provided music for after-the-ceremony danc-ing. The band Unkle Monkey was enjoyed by all...guests even wanted them to continue to play to keep the party going. What a blast! We also had several inquires for membership.

None of this would have been possible without the best members/volunteers in the yachting community. When you all came together and worked together the results were simply amazing. Two weeks have passed and we are still getting compliments regarding out Opening Day.

Thank you to Mike Williams, Barbara and Mauricio Lewak, Gay and John Rusbasky, Lynda Peterson and Kenny Woodruff, Gil and Jill Irwin, John elders, Dave Sarazen, don Karasevicz, Toni and Bruce Stafford, Sam and Sheila Martelero, Paul and Gale Bare, Mark Rigger, Bob Mackay, Dan Bohannon, Ron Bohannon, Sherrae Anderson, Amy Myer, Pat Paxson, Lou and Jill Toth, Sue Meyer, Barbara Smith, Cathy Dow, Cathy Mueller, Terry Lunn, Julie Clay-comb, Christy and Bill Beana, Shirley DePasse. Some of these names you may not recognize...they are new members who helped out for Opening Day. These are the members that made our club so welcoming.

Amy Irwin and Craig and Debbie Allsopp led the Clean-Up Days. Monette Thomann dressed the club. She was in charge of all decora-tions. Penny Towne-Vowles arranged the catering and script Continued page 4

VICE COMMODORE: Amy Irwin

Hi all ---Did you mark your calendars for Mother’s Day on May 12?If you are blessed enough to still have your mother with you, I hope you had a great day with her. Maybe you took a stroll through the Marina, with an end-of-the-day cocktail at our lovely bar! (If so, I’m sure she was impressed when you used your own key to get in?!?) I’ll

tell you who has a helluva Mother’s Day Brunch -- King Harbor YC. Yes, we took ma there for her annual Mother’s Day visit -- the fact that she prefers visiting her son’s club over mine does not go unnoticed, but that’s another story. Thanks to everyone who has asked, called and texted about her health. We are entering day 100-something of her bout with the shingles, and they are FINALLY officially ALMOST gone away.

Words of wisdom for Mother’s Day:If mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy!

Memorial Day is May 29. Won’t you join us at the club as we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we may have the freedoms we have today? Tom and Maria Fraser will be hosting lunch (and kicking off the Officer of the Day season) and the flag-raising ceremony. A flyer with all of the details is in this newsletter...

Which brings me back to my usual shameless plug: ODs! I’ver resorted to stalking people online to get them to sign on. People are so sick of me that I’ve even been ‘blocked’ and ‘unfriended!’ Please help me out and sign up to host!! Thanks to the Allsopps, Healys, Mathers, Muellers, Sarazens, Don K., Julie & Dena, Lynda & Karen, and the fabulous Irwin family for signing up! Only 20 more

Sats and Suns to go and we’ll have a full Summer of booze and breakfasts!

Another Opening Day has come and gone. (Kinda like Christmas, right? Can’t wait for it to get here and glad to see it go!!) There are so many people to thank for their hard work in making this event run smoothly. Now it’s time for serious boating and partying -- not necessarily in that order...

Commodore’s Report (continued from Page 3)writing as well as leading the registration team. Shawn Milligan repaired and cleaned all burgees and as well as the podium. And thank you to Kevin Herink for providing the sound system and to the marina staff, Marion, Cameron, Sharon, Juan and Chris for all your support.

Linda Wells brought the teams together. She orchestrated the entire show down to the last detail. And what a show it was! Thank you for giving the club your time and service, Thank you for giving the club your time and service. You made me very proud!

Thanks to my bridge and board for all your support! Commodore Sheilia

Tips To Be a Successful Officer-of-the-Day

by Amy, retired Quartermaster

Don’t let hosting OD leave you in a quandary!

Promote! Promote! Promote! It is up to the host to contact the secretary --- email, flyer etc. who will then send it to the masses. People appreciate a week’s notice, or at least by Wednesday before. This is a great time to show-off the club to your skeptical friends and family. Please remember to invite the Marina office staff as well. We must be kind to our landlord.

Before you shop! Check both fridges in the galley. There often are staples such as eggs, or milk, leftover from previous O.Ds. If you have any special requests, contact the Quartermaster.

Don’t Forget the Bar Area! Coffee station: Make 2 pots of coffee. Use an urn to keep one hot while the other is brewing.

Mimosa Bar Use large bowls filled with ice and some water to keep champagne and OJ chilled.

Have Fun: No one likes to run out of food in the first ten minutes. Most people show up within the first couple hours, so don’t kill yourself running back to the store if you run out of something--- when it’s gone, it’s gone!

And: Don’t forget your iPOD!

ODs are a lot of work, that’s why we all take turns--- so we get the opportunity to relax and enjoy--- someone else’s!!

March Wine-Tasting Land CruiseCommodore Shelia Anderson

PRYC Connections April/May 2013 Page 7

We had a terrific time at our Wine Tasting Land Cruise on March 24.

After a rocky start due to the postponement of the February trip, we had a wonderful day in Southern California Wine Country. We were transported by a luxury motor coach provided by H&L Motor Coach with our professional driver Harold.

We arrived in Temecula at our first stop of the day, Wiens Winery and were treated to a VIP greeting. We received a Wiens Winery wine glass and the best wine of the day. The friendly staff made us feel very special.

The second stop was Danza del Sol, this is where we enjoyed a delicious lunch in the cool tree-lined patio at our reserved picnic setting. What great way to enjoy the afternoon! The third and final stop of the day was at Monte de Oro. Their outside patio boost the most picturesque view of the Temecula Valley. With musicians playing great music….we danced. Lou was in heaven! Even Catfish had a good time. A special “thank you” to Penny Towne-Vowles for helping coordinate the food for the event.

We tasted lots of wines and fun was had by all--members and friends alike. Don’t miss the next Wine Tasting trip!
