Section 1 - Open Education Resources - Data Structures

About the OER:

This OER is a collection of video and Assessment questions using moodle cloud. The course is

designed into three sections.

1. Basic Data Structures

2. Sorting and Searching

3. Trees and Graphs

Each part of the course has a separate Assessment Quiz and a final one at the end of the entire course.

• The OER is accessible from https://oer201x.moodlecloud.com/login/index.php

• Target Audience : The Second Year students Computer Science and IT Discipline

• Tags: OER, Data Structure, FDP, 201x, Linked List, Stack, Queue, Sorting, Searching,

Trees, Graphs

• OER is developed in moodlecloud.

• The OER is protected by the creative commons license

Learning Objectives:

The user after accessing the course

• will be able to design and implement data structure based problems.

• Will be clear in the basic concepts

• will be able cite examples for the same.

Section 2 : Design Decisions

Nature of Decisions Taken:

For the preparation of the OER, the following decisions were need to be done

1. Decisions based on Content

2. Decisions based on the pedagogic value of the content

3. Decisions on the technology used for the OER

Decisions based on Content:

These decisions were basically about what should be included and what should be avoided. It was

decided to have three sections, which basically were about the basic data structures, Advanced data

Structures and non-data structure elements that were present. The reference curriculum were from the TCE

and anna university were data structure classes were available for second year Students.

Decisions Based on the Pedagogic value of the Content:

The pedagogic value of a course is basically about flip classrooms. These contents are based for the

out of the classroom activities. A student is expected to go through these contents before he comes to the

class. After he attends the class. he is expected to attend the assessments in the course.

Decisions on the Technology Used for OER:

For creating video courses, a recording software was necessary. It was decided to use screen - o -

cast and also camstudio for recording them. The Assessment was decided to be made as part of the moodle

cloud. Moodle Cloud was used for hosting the course contents. Also videos and other documents were

uploaded to the OER home page in wordpress.

Section 3: OER Description

Active OER:

For accessing the currently active OER, use the following link

https://oer201x.moodlecloud.com/login/index.php. The OER can be accessed by creating a user login from

the self enrollment page. Once you login, add the course to your list by enlisting for the course. Then you

will be able to access the entire course contents and the assessments of the course.

Lesson Settings:

The course has been designed for moodlecloud. The screenshots that follow are the step by step

procedures on setting up the course. The procedures are self explanatory. The topic of the screenshots

depict the process.

How to Use this OER:

• The OER can be accessed in the above mentioned link

• The User has to register for the course under the self enrollment option.

• Once the user is registered, a email will be sent to authenticate the user.

• The user after authenticating the login, has to enroll in the course\

• Once the user is enrolled in the course, all the contents of the course is accessible to the user.

Best Practices with Lesson Activity:

• Provide information before ample time.

• Provide the students enough time to complete the course.

Section 4: Evaluating Effectiveness with OER

The effectiveness of the OER has to be based on two aspects

1. Students Perspective

2. Teachers Perspective

Students Perspective:

The students are expected to attend the course and also get benefitted from this course. The benefit

level of students can be measured by the marks they score in the assessments. There are multiple

assessment for each course and a final assessment for the entire course. These assessments will give a

perspective of the student understanding each course and the entire course as a whole.

Teachers Perspective:

The teachers who use this course can also be evaluated by the assessment that is available. Also

when a user download the entire course material, then the faculty can be asked to comment on the blog and

these comments can be used for evaluating.\

The general comments can be based on the following

• Easiness of the material

• Easiness of the accessibility of the course

• Construction of the Course

• Availabilty of the Course

• Coverage of syllabus
