@SalfordUniSalfordUni @SalfordUni University of Salford
O n behalf of all the staff and students at today’s Open Day, we’d like to wish you a very warm welcome to the
University of Salford.
During your Open Day, you can explore our campus and see where you could be living and studying; meet your future teaching staff and chat to current students about Salford life.
You’ll also see the impact of £160 million of investment into our campus – including our student village at Peel Park, our state-of-the-art New Adelphi building, and industry-leading facilities at Frederick Road and MediaCityUK.
As a student at the University of Salford, you’ll be given the opportunities to make the most of your time here, and the support you need to seize those opportunities. From academic support to wellbeing, student finance to accommodation, we’ll be with you each step of the way, so you can become the very best you can be.
We’ll also get you ready for work. We build relationships with industry leaders like Unilever, Morgan Sindall, the Manchester
Institute of Health and Performance and Max Mara, which allow us to offer fantastic opportunities for you to learn skills outside of the lecture theatre, including live briefs, internships and placements. Our courses and facilities are designed to meet the needs of industry, and many are taught by current and former practitioners who bring their real-world skills and connections to help you make your first strides into your chosen career.
As you explore our campus today, we hope that you’re inspired by the enthusiasm and expertise of our staff, the passion of our students, and the first-rate facilities on offer.

@SalfordUni @SalfordUni SalfordUni University of Salford
1. Get an overview of the University at the Welcome and Information Talk (page 28).
2. Attend a subject presentation for your chosen course. All subject presentations have both a morning and an afternoon slot, so if you're torn between a couple of courses, you've got the opportunity to test them both out (pages 8-25).
3. Let one of our friendly student ambassadors take you on a tour of our Peel Park, Frederick Road and MediaCityUK sites. Look out for the campus tour signs.
4. Visit our on-site accommodation at Peel Park Quarter and find out more about your options for accommodation from the team (page 36).
5. Use the hop-on-hop-off shuttle buses to view our other accommodation site at John Lester/Eddie Colman (page 28).
6. Take a tour of askUS, our student support hub, based at University House. You can also meet the Students’ Union team here and find out more about clubs, societies and being a student rep.
7. Got a question about student support or finance? Attend one of our askUS presentations to find out more (page 28).
8. Visit some of our hidden gems – tours are available at designated times. We’d recommend the anechoic chamber, it’s not to be missed! (page 32).
9. Take a tour of our sports and fitness facilities at Peel Park campus.
10. Pop down to Atmosphere Kitchen & Bar in University House for a brew and a bite to eat.

Our Open Days take place across our three campuses, including MediaCityUK. The location of your subject presentation and facilities tour will depend on the course you are interested in. You can find out which courses are based where on pages 8-25.
MAPS
Pick up a map at any of our check-in desks, and if you need pointing in the right direction, just ask one of our student ambassadors.
BUSES
Three different buses will be running during the day: one MediaCityUK Link and two Campus Link shuttles.
VISITING MEDIACITYUK
For visitors to our MediaCityUK campus, we are running a link bus departing from Maxwell Hall every 15 minutes, which, on its return journey, will also stop at both of our accommodation sites.
Parking is limited at MediaCityUK and there is a charge. So if you’re driving to our Open Day, we recommend parking for free at the main University campus, then catching the link bus to MediaCityUK from Maxwell Hall. Free parking is available at Irwell Place car park (use the postcode M5 4WT to park at Irwell Place).
If you do decide to drive to MediaCityUK and have a sat nav, you can use the postcode M50 2EQ.
CAMPUS LINK SHUTTLE BUSES
The two Campus Link routes take you betweenPeel Park and Frederick Road campuses, as well as our accommodation sites: John Lester and Eddie Colman Courts and Peel Park Quarter (see page 36 for more information about accommodation). They both travel along the same loop, but in opposite directions in order to minimise travel times for you.
You can also easily walk between our Peel Park and Frederick Road campuses and accommodation sites, simply ask one of our staff and we'll point you in the right direction!
FINDING YOUR WAY AROUND
STUDENT AMBASSADORS
Our Student Ambassadors will be on hand to help you throughout the campus, (they’re the ones in the red t-shirts). Whether you need pointing in the right direction or want to ask them about studying at Salford, they’ll be happy to answer your questions.

41 Out and
about in th
e city
We’re Salford and proud, but there’s no denying that our next door neighbour is one of the most exciting cities in the world. Here are our top five reasons to love Manchester.
OUT AND ABOUT –
IN THE CITY
@SalfordUniSalfordUni @SalfordUni University of Salford
1. FOOD
Manchester is one of the best places in the country for dining out. There’s food from almost every country in the world, from fine dining to street food. Spinningfields is a great place to have a glass of wine while doing some celeb spotting. You’ll find burgers galore in the Northern Quarter along with a huge selection of craft ales to wash them down. The Grade II listed Corn Exchange houses 13 restaurants under one roof. Meanwhile, The Printworks has everything you need for a great night out, including restaurants, bars and clubs.
2. MUSIC AND NIGHTLIFE
Manchester is famous for its music scene and the lively, energetic buzz shows no sign of abating. The Warehouse Project attracts clubbers from all over the world, and Manchester’s popular festival Parklife (from the people behind the Warehouse Project), is held each summer in Manchester’s Heaton Park. Every May, Salford’s Sounds from the Other City festival is held in locations just a short walk away from our main campus.
3. SHOPPING
Food or fashion, bargain or designer, organic or value: it’s all here. Hop on the 100 bus from outside the University and it will take you straight to the Trafford Centre, the second largest shopping mall in the UK with a cinema, bowling and restaurants all open until late. Student favourite Afflecks has dozens of independent shops and stalls selling original, vintage and handmade goods. Manchester’s Arndale is just two kilometres away from campus, and has hundreds of international brands, plus lots of student focused events and discounts, all under one roof.
4. SPORT
Not only is Manchester home to one of the most famous football teams in the world, Manchester United, and its rival, Manchester City, it hosts international cricket matches at Lancashire County Cricket Club, world cycling competitions at the Manchester Velodrome, and international swimming events at the Aquatics Centre. And if playing sport is your thing, you’ve got plenty to choose from, including the Power League which has 14 all-weather pitches. You can ski all year round at Chill Factore, or you can even take part in open water swim sessions in the Manchester Ship Canal from April to September. And we’ve got our very own sports centre right here on campus, complete with a gym, swimming pool, sauna, climbing wall, courts and pitches.
5. CULTURE
Manchester’s reputation for producing world-famous musicians places it centre stage in the world of culture. But it’s not all about Oasis and The Smiths; from the diversity of Manchester International Festival (MIF) to live music venues such as The Bridgewater Hall and The Deaf Institute, there really is something for everyone. Need a break from the noise and excitement? There are many excellent art galleries, museums, theatres and libraries. Visit contemporary and classic exhibitions at Salford Museum and Art Gallery, or take in a film or theatre experience at the multi-artform centre, HOME. With its rich literary legacy, Manchester is home to some of the best libraries including Manchester Central Library and Chetham’s, the oldest public library in the English-speaking world.
You’ll be invited to our Welcome Week in September 2019, during which you can complete your registration, meet new friends, explore the campus and city - and most importantly, have fun!
If you applied by 15 January you’ll need to choose a firm choice and an insurance choice by 1 May 2019.
If you are made a conditional or unconditional offer, we’ll invite you to an Applicant Visit Day, which will take place between February and April 2019.
When you’ve made up your mind about which course you want to take, apply online through www.ucas.com before 15 January 2019 to guarantee consideration. You can still apply after this date but we can’t guarantee your application will be considered as some courses may close.
HOW TOAPPLY
To make your application to Salford smooth and stress-free, follow this step-by-step guide and make a note of the important dates and deadlines.
STEP 1Think about what you really want to know - not just about your course, but where you’ll live, the experiences you’ll gain, the people you’ll meet. Attend UCAS fairs, go to careers events held in your school or college, talk to your teachers and careers advisor too.
STEP 2
STEP 4
STEP 5After applying, you should start thinking about how you’ll fund your studies – usually through a student loan. For more details visit www.gov.uk/student-finance
STEP 6
STEP 7
STEP 8
To get a real understanding of whether a university is right for you, attend an Open Day, just like this one! Open Days are your opportunity to meet current students and teaching staff and get a feel for where you will study.
Once your application has been received, it will be considered and we might ask you to come and meet us for an interview or audition, depending on your course. After this, we’ll make a decision and let you know the outcome via UCAS Track.
Once you’ve received an offer, you should start to think about accommodation. Find out more about your accommodation options at www.salford.ac.uk/accommodation
STEP 9In order to guarantee your student finance is in place before you start in September, you should apply by the end of May 2019. You can apply at www.gov.uk/apply-online-for-student-finance
Depending on what you’re currently studying, you should receive your results in July or August. If you’ve met the conditions for your course at Salford, we’ll let you know via UCAS Track that your place is confirmed. If your results were different to those you expected, there may be options open to you through clearing.
