I’ve saved my dimes. I’ll go to the fair tonight.
I’ll meet Mabel and Dave. May and Rose may go too. We’ll ride the train.
We meet by the light. The train’s here too. We’ll leave right away.
We’re near the fair. We wait by the seats. “Mabel, see the bright lights,” I say.
Here’s the fair. We go to the gate.
We’ll try some rides. Soon we fly above the fair. I ride beside Mabel. We hold the rails.
Rose goes alone. Dave and May go behind. We feel the breeze. We wave.
The ride’s done. We go to the boat ride.
The boats float away. I say, “The green boat’s fine. The gray boat’s old and slow.”
We wait near the boat gate. Soon a boat arrives. The boat’s green.
“We’ll sail the green boat,” says Dave. “Right,” we say.
The boat glides by the fair. “See the goats!” says Rose.
“We’ll wait to try those,” says May.
Dave says, “The moonlight’s bright tonight. I see the road a mile away.”
Soon the boat ride’s done too.
“I see a booth,” says Dave. “So do I. See the yo-yos,” I say, “Maybe I’ll own
one. I’ll try.”
“Here’s a dime,” I say. I try to throw the beans behind the board. Nine beans fly behind the board.
“One more and the yo-yo’s mine.” I aim and throw the bean. “I’ve won!” I say. “The green yo-yo’s fine.”
Mabel and Rose say, “We need some food. Do you need to eat too?”
“Yes,” we say. “We’ll eat here.”
“The roast beef’s fine,” says Dave. “Yes,” I say, “and the fries taste fine too.”
“See the bones. I ate the most food,” says Rose. “I’m slow,” says Mabel. “My tooth’s loose.”
May says, “I’ll stay here.” “No, you won’t, May. Time to go. We’ll be late,”
says Rose. “Yes, you’re right,” says May.
“The train’s here,” I say. We go to the train and find some seats. Soon
the train leaves.
“A fine night,” I say. “Yes,” says Rose. “We’ll soon be home.”
