ACCIDENTS & INCIDENTS will additionally be accompanied by the musicians Omar Karray and Osman Arabi. Artists’ Statement: For ACCIDENTS & INCIDENTS we’re looking for people who own oriental instruments such as oud, tar, tabla and gimbre and/or can play them; people interested in sampling and turntablism; and people who would like to produce videos with us in this context. The object of our project is to bring about the ultimate acoustic accident by experimenting with musical coincidences. We break away from indifference, dismantling existing connections and creating something new. By tactical disintegration we integrate into an environment where we re-live situations and create a laboratory for overcoming the linear reality of our destinies. We concentrate on the contradictions, the background noises constituting our personal stories, and transfer these sounds into a personal and at the same time universal language. If human life is like a film, we’re inventing the soundtrack to go with it. We undertake musical field research with found objects, memories, and fragments of sound that whizz through the historic context like gunshots. Everyone wants to go to heave but no one wants to die. Where is paradise? Is there still room? Are you in? Is there a life before death? Is it worth risking one’s life and if so, what does that sound like? In combination with our music we will be producing a collage of video, visuals & text, which will accompany and contrast the presentation of our soundtrack. Aesthetically we are consciously taking up a position against the kitsch and frostiness of Berlin auto-orientalism, countering it with methods referencing the artistic movements Action Directe and Fluxus as well as our own anti-national imageries.
