    Open and closed texts

Literary critics assess texts as a mechanism of transmitting information from a writer to a

reader, from a generation to another. It is important for a work to have many possibilitiesto emit the whole meaning of the message, and these possibilities are determined by boththe qualities of the writer and the reader's qualities. In the production process, the writeris the first one who could read his own words, and the reader writer has a different

perception than the writer himself. e could see his work more critically, could indetify alot of drawbacks and could operate the cheanges required. !fter he composed, his worksurvives the passge of time on its own. "eaders, by their literary taste, read a book or notand most of them decides if it can be called a masterpiece. #est of time has shown manytimes it is defining for the work existance.

On the other hand, the reader is the one who helps the works to survive. #hrow hislecture, he gives the meaning and that drives to giving the importance to a specific work.$ecoding the codes of the book, the reader is able to assess it by its accuracy, fluency.

#exts can be of two types according to %mberto &co closed and open text. e considersthat nothing is more open than a closed text. It is closed because the reader does noteffect a reading for pleasure. #he performer could not cooperate with the work and hisown strategies and that drives to a misunderstanding and also to problem in receiving themessage. (oreover, %mberto &co)s view says that a closed text has only some fewinterpretations, and these texts could not be used according to the wishes of each reader.

!n open text is placed on the other edge of the issue. #he reader knows all the usage ofthe text and he could pull out all that meanings which accomplish the expectation. #hetipology of the texts risks to become a perpetual producer of shades. #he writer mustknow how he drives the lecturer in his reading and where the reader)s freedom must

begin. "egarding the sum of possible interpretation should include all that intendmentsthat confirm each other.

&ach and every text built up his own model reader. #his one is a pro*ection of the idealreader who can bring out all that meanings, submitted symbols. In fact, he assists to therewriting process of the text and this action is happening under his eyes. #he imaginate

power, the fabric knowledge of the reader reorganise the book universe and give it a newand original interpretation. (any possible interpretations entails values of the literarywork.

#o sum up, there are some important factors that conditioned the writer process of thetext and its existance after that the writer, the reader and the context. Literature knowsover time many masterpieces, but also some writings that could not reach the readers)
