OpConnect Hawaii Expands with New EV Charging Ports and
Additional Investment from Ulupono Initiative
Honolulu (Dec. 30, 2014) — OpConnect Hawaii, the biggest provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations
in the islands, announced today the installation of eight new charging ports on Oahu and Maui and an additional
investment from the Ulupono Initiative.
OpConnect Hawaii recently completed installing six charging ports at the new One Ala Moana condominium
located at the Ala Moana Center, as well as two charging ports at Foodland Kehalani in Wailuku, Maui. With
more than 1,500 registered EV drivers in Hawaii, OpConnect operates the state’s largest network of charging
stations with nearly 100 charge spots at sites on Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island.
Along expanding its network, OpConnect Hawaii also received an additional funding of $65,000 from Honolulu-
based Ulupono Initiative, which initially invested $350,000 in 2013. The new investment will go toward
strengthening OpConnect Hawaii’s operations and installing the company’s innovative Mark II charging stations
statewide.
“Our investment in OpConnect Hawaii demonstrates Ulupono’s commitment to supporting the state’s growing
EV industry,” said Ulupono Initiative’s Managing Partner Murray Clay. “We are working closely with
OpConnect to ensure our funding helps it provide Hawaii’s EV drivers with much-needed public charging support
to alleviate ‘range anxiety’ and promote the use of EVs overall.”
“Ulupono Initiative has been a terrific partner both with its investments and support of OpConnect Hawaii,” said
Dexter Turner, OpConnect Hawaii CEO. “It has been rewarding to work collaboratively with a long-term
partner that shares our vision for a better Hawaii. This investment ensures Hawaii’s EV drivers have expanding
access to reliable and easy-to-use stations for charging their electric vehicles throughout the islands.”
OpConnect’s Mark II Level 2 public charging stations feature a 15-inch touchscreen display, optional 32-inch
display, integrated credit card reader and more. OpConnect offers advanced smart networking features such as
point-of-sale (POS) payments, reservations/queuing, data management, demand response, tiered rate plans and
digital advertising.
OpConnect’s network has been integrated with other EV charging station manufacturers to provide these and
other features for their Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 products.
