3Welcome Note

On behalf of the 2012 RA-UK Programme Committee, I would like to welcome you to Newcastle for the RA-UK Annual Scientific Meeting and Workshops, which will be held from 10–11 May 2012 at Centre for Life. We plan to continue many of the successful aspects of previous meetings such as the paired hot topics course (highlighting both the basic science and the clinical applications of topics), and extensive ultrasound-guided and clinical skills workshop opportunities. Based on your feedback, we also plan on several new sessions including:

• Workshop on continuous catheter techniques• Update on enhanced recovery and regional anaesthesia• Poster competition with a prize medal• Internationally renowned speakers• Bruce Scott lecture• Exciting social events: The RA-UK dinner with live music and the RA-UK golf competition• Exhibitors gallery

The 2012 Annual Scientific Meeting and Workshops will once again provide a variety of exciting and comprehensive learning opportunities for consultants, specialty doctors, trainees and fellows.

Finally, as you enjoy the substantial assortment of new and traditional educational offerings, please take some time to experience some of the unique activities Newcastle has to offer, including its fine dining, live shows, and lively nightlife. As one of the UK’s most unique cities, Newcastle-upon-tyne will certainly have something for everyone to enjoy!

We look forward to your participation in what promises to be an engaging and informative RA-UK 2012 Annual Scientific Meeting and Workshops.

HOT TOPICS

To be held on Thursday 10 May 2012 at the Centre for Life, Newcastle.

The format will take the form of short lectures with time for discussion. It will be held parallel to the hands-on ultrasound workshops at the same venue. The hot topics course is held as 2 sessions (morning and afternoon) and you have the option of choosing one hot topics session and a workshop module for the day (please indicate your choice in the registration form). The topics are focused on current debates on the role of regional anaesthesia in different clinical areas. They will be highly practical and provide useful tips to both novice and experienced practitioners.
