Notes-- Tlrese charts provide a convenient means of determining the verti- cal fall in feet requiretl to arm the various types of fuzes n-hen the bomb is re- leased in any combination of dive angle and speed. The “air travel” for
entering the cluxts is t,he act,ual distance traveled by t!he bomb along t’he trajectory. Vtllues of air travel are h 4ven in t)he ticwript, ion of each fuze. Vertical fall required to arm is tlcfinetl as tllc vorticd distlancc bc~twcen the point, of wlcase of tho bomb and tlic point wh(brc tllcl fuzc~ bccomw fully asrnctl.
Procedure -JVith air travel for a given fuze enter t)he chart for the appro- priate dive angle. Project air travel vertNically lo the curve corresponding t0
spcwl of aircwd t and from thcrc horizontally to ititorw(~f the vertical fall scalp. This intclrwction givchs the vertical full wquiwtl to arm the fuze.
Example :
Given: ,lir trawl - - 1,100 feet
Dive angle-~ _ _. - 30 dPgr~‘cs
True air speed - - 200 Ii110 t s

Figure 5
Notes--Thme charts provide a convenient means of determining the verti- cal fall in feet required to arm the various types of fuzes when the bomb is re- leased in any combination of dive angle and speed. The “air travel” for entering the charts is the actual distance traveletl by the bomb along the trajectory. Values of air travel are given in the description of each fuze. Vertical fall required to arm is defined as the vertical distance between t’he point of release of the bomb and the point where the fuzc becomes fully armed.
Procedure- -With air travel for a, given fuze cnt,er t,he chart for the appro- priate dive angle. Project air travel vertically to the curve corresponding to
speed of aircraft and from there horizontally to intersect the vertical fall scale. This intcrsectiorr gives the vertical fall rcquirecl to arm the fuze.
Example :
Given: Air t’ravel- - _ - - _ - 1,100 feet Dive angle _-..--- _~~ -.- ~~. 30 dcgrccs
Trueairspeed---- ~. ~~ -~ _. 200 knots From 30” chart: Vertical fall- - - 650 fecbt
Tn dives over GO degrees, vertical fall may be consitlcwd as equal to uir- arming travel.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS
Bomb Nose Fuzes AN-Ml 04, AN-MI 2OAI, Ml 70
To iusure maximum safety, the following pre- cautious should be tInken when using clusCers of bombs containing t’hese fuzcs:
I. Insure by repeated instruction that ALL mcu hnr~tllit~g clust~c~rs con taming bombs with these fuzcs undcrst and the construction and operation of the cluster and fuzes. Keep the number of men to a, minimum.
2. Inform local Bomb Disposal Officer of the use of these clusters and have him stand by or be avaSilablc upou call to assembly, handling, ant1 loading areas.
3. Only Bomb Disposal Personnel, or other pcrsonnc1 similarly qlralified, are to handle armed fuzcs.
4. Insure that> pilots and crews arc informed of the possibility of a bomb’s detonating following both land and water crashes. (The arming wire may be accitlcn tally removed by impact, arming the fuze.)
5. Assemble fuzes to clustered bombs prior to hoist, ing imo aircraft’. (Because more care can bc tlakcn under more favorable conditions of ligllt, wcatlrcr, and accessibility.)
G. Fuzc clusters only as needed. ‘7. After the cluster is positively fastened to
tllie rack or shackle, the fuzc arming wires should be checked and t,hen t,he fuze safctp cotter pins removed.
8. Do not mix loads of para-frngs with other bombs.
9. Carry clusters only in TBI? or ot,hcr bomb- bay type aircraft of maximum safet)y.
10. These clust, ers may be used safely only with continuous maximum cart.
Bomb Nose Fuzes AN-MI 1 OAl and AN-Ml 26Al
‘l’hc following precautions should bc taken when usiug bornbs or clusters of bombs containing these fuzc5.
I. Insure that’ all people handling bombs, or clusters of bombs, containing these fuzcs arc aware that a blow crushing one of tlhese fuzes may cause the fuze to fire, det’ona tiug the bomb. This could result from dropping a cluster of bombs five to ten feet onto a hard surface. Appropriate care must, therefore, be exercised.
2. It is recommended that clusters or bombs containing these fuzes not bc carried on external racks in landings of carrier-busctl aircraft,, since on arrested landings an accidcntjally released cluster or bomb might dctonat,c as a result of crushing, even though the fuzes were unarmed.
