Impact on Residents – Resident View

• EQ-5D is a standardised and widely-used questionnaire which enables a change in a derived quality of life index to be measured

• 50 residents who regularly do Oomph! classes undertook the self-reported EQ-5D survey at a point in time and 3 months later

• 91% of older adults reported their quality of life (QoL) either deteriorated or stayed constant over the year (AgeUK Later Life in UK, November 2014)

Doris says, “When I first came in here about 6

months ago everything had to be done for me…

since then, doing regular Oomph! alongside

physio has helped a lot, and the company has

kept me from not being depressed. I can now

walk with a stick, if someone holds my other

hand. I went back to my GP in June and who

gave me a big hug and said you’ve proved me

wrong! I’ll now be going back home to live.”

Doris’ GP told her she would

never walk again, but now

she’s going back home to live

after 6 months of 2-3 Oomph!

classes per week, alongside

some physiotherapy!

Impact on Residents – Care home staff view

“Oomph! still plays a huge part of the activity planner -

we’ll continue to deliver Oomph! as the impact it has for

the residents is second to none. (Care home manager)

…say Oomph! has a significant or very significant impact on these factors¹

Impact Report Q3 2014

”“One of our gentleman with hardly any mobility, limited movements and usually very little speech

began singing, waving his arms, laughing doing some movements. He even took the scarf and was posing like he was a model, and got hot and whipped his jumper off choosing to carry on in his vest much to the whoops and delights of all the ladies. Everyone was so shocked, I knew Oomph! was

going to be good but WOW!!”

“A lady was so pleased she came.

She has declined every exercise class for 3 years and has always made harsh comments. Today she asked me to make sure she came along to every Oomph! session.”

Impact Report Q3 2014

I was doing my gardening

club…when to my absolute

amazement there were

residents and team

members in the windows

everywhere doing Oomph!

moves… How much our

home has changed and

filled with laughter…proud to

be part of the changes in our home. (Instructor)

Since introducing Oomph! we have several residents taking part who have never joined in before, even visitors have been joining in with the sessions. Today kitchen staff were also joining in and appeared to fully enjoy what Angela was doing. Visitors

have also commented on the great atmosphere it has brought into the home! (Care home manager)

Gwen at Queen Bay Lodge has

transformed the home into an Oomph!

home with 3 Oomph! walls filled with

photos and quotes from the sessions

and at least 3 classes per week. She

says, “when I put that t-shirt on I

become Mrs Oomph! to the residents”.

During and after Oomph! the whole home is buzzing. (Care Home manager)
