Assist First Nations and Tribal Councils with Fire Prevention Issues

Fire Loss Statistics
Gather and compile all reported fire loss statistics for Ontario Region
Report loss statistics to all OFNTSC clients, ONFFS and INAC – Toronto and Ottawa
Fire Protection/Prevention Training
Review training contract work plan and course curriculum for training
Assist ONFFS in finding additional resources other than OFNTSC
Evaluate the community needs assessments with training contractor for fire fighter training
Fire Protection/Prevention Training
Assist in development of work plan for OFNTSC client fire departments training for Risk Management and Administration training
Community fire prevention training through National Poster Contest for school children
Aboriginal Firefighters Association of Canada – Wisdom of the Fire Program

Assist CRTP training coordinator in obtaining confined space training for client water plant operators
Initiate discussion with PSHSA Managers and training officers
Develop OFNTSC training library

2011/2012 Activities:
Bulk Fire Equipment Purchase OFNTSC administered the purchase of thirteen thousand nine
hundred and thirty-seven (13,937) pieces of fire equipment for distribution to Ontario First Nations (Refer to OFNTSC Discussion Forum)
Fire Apparatus Purchase OFNTSC administered the purchase of eight fire trucks to eight First
Nation Communities. Fire Truck Pump and Pumper Operation Manuals have been reproduced and the Fire Truck Basic Operation Training has been provided to all eight First Nation Communities.
Regional Fire Loss Report – Calendar Year 2010 Regional Fire Loss Report provided to INAC, $3,321,770.00 total
dollar loss, 2 fire related deaths and 2 fire related injuries reported.
2011/2012 Activities (continued):ONFFS 20th Annual Fire Fighters Competition June 25, 2011, Oneida Nation of the Thames, ON• Bkejwanong Territory represented Ontario at the National Fire Fighters Competition hosted by
MANFF in Winnipeg, MB, August 20, 2011. Ontario placed tied fourth with Alberta.
Fire Apparatus Basic Operation Training Fire Truck Basic Operation Training has been provided to all eight First Nation Communities
who received a new truck.
Emergency Preparedness and Response OFNTSC in partnership with ONFFS is currently conducting training for Southern and Central
Ontario First Nations Communities. Four out of the seven training sessions have been completed.
Fire Prevention Week:“Protect Your Family from Fire” October 9-15, 2011 Fire Prevention Material has been distributed to Fire Chiefs, Fire Prevention Advisors, Fire
Safety Officers and Tribal Council Representatives.

Fire Apparatus Purchase:OFNTSC completed specification review and administered the purchase of eight fire trucks (Freightliner side mount and top control) for eight Communities.
