District Programs:
Dual Language Program
Integrates native Spanish speakers and
native English speakers in a mixed group
setting.
Students receive instruction in both languages in the core content areas.
Students become bilingual and develop
an appreciation and a cross-cultural
understanding of others.
Students have an opportunity to obtain a
Seal of Biliteracy Performance
Acknowledgement upon graduation.
Only at Humble Elementary (K-5).
Bilingual Late Exit Transitional Program
Spanish speaking native speakers are
taught basic concepts with primary language support as they transition to an
all English program.
The percentage of English increases as the students move from Pre-K-5th grade.
Students in a bilingual education program may exit in grades 2-5 if they demonstrate proficiency in English listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills as measured by state exit criteria.
This program is implemented at the
following schools: Jack Fields Elementary, Humble Elementary, Lakeland Elementary, North Belt Elementary, Oak Forest Elementary (K-5), Park Lakes Elementary, River Pines, Elementary, Timbers Elementary (Pre-K
only).
Students have an opportunity to obtain a
Seal of Biliteracy Performance
Acknowledgement upon graduation.
English as a Second Language
Supports ELLs (English Language
Learners) to acquire English and understand content.
Teachers use second language
strategies, scaffolding techniques, and accommodated lessons based on English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS).
ESL is implemented on all Humble ISD campuses and all grade levels.
Students exit out of ESL when they meet state exit criteria.
Languages Other than English
Reinforces the value of communication in other languages.
Equips students with understanding of the language (at the appropriate level)
and its culture so that they can successfully communicate and relate in
a meaningful way.
Humble ISD offers American Sign Language, French, German, Latin, and Spanish at different secondary campuses.
Spanish Immersion Program
Language enrichment program that provides Spanish as a second language
instruction to fluent English speaking
students through the core academic content areas (Math, Reading, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies).
Grades 1-5
Students have an opportunity to obtain a Seal of Biliteracy Performance Acknowledgement upon graduation.
The program is offered at Bear Branch
Elementary, Groves Elementary, and
Pine Forest Elementary.
