September 18, 2009 Dear Parent or Guardian: Publishing is the final stage of the writing process, and it is important because it gives authors a purpose for writing: sharing their ideas with an audience. So, this semester, Ms. Chapman’s and Mrs. Voorhees’s 7 th /8 th Grade Language Arts classes as well as other Savage students, will collectively publish a book titled Off the Blacktop and Onto the Page. Your permission is required in order to have your child’s work included in this book. Please review your child’s work (listed below and attached) before signing this permission slip. Make sure that you are comfortable with your child publishing this work. The book, once published, will be available for anyone in the world to purchase, so private information appearing in your child’s work should be altered or deleted to maintain privacy. Discuss these and other changes with your child. The copyright of the individual works remains in the hands of each student. You are merely giving permission to have your child’s work published in this edition of Off the Blacktop and Onto the Page. Students can publish their own work in the future however they see fit. Proceeds from the sale of the book are donated to The Daniel J. Savage Book Club. I will purchase a copy for our classroom, so you are not required to buy anything. However, I invite you to order a copy of Off the Blacktop and Onto the Page for your child from www.lulu.com . Sincerely, Ms. Chapman and Mrs. Voorhees I give permission to allow my child, _________________________________________, to submit his or her
