advances and the challenges were detailed factually. There was a call to the congregation to step up on giving, and already our Business Manager, Kathy Hill, reports we are experiencing a generous response. Praise God! May it continue! I am convinced that sacrificial generosity of time, talent and treasure will result in God being glorified, lives transformed, and our church strengthening its foundation on Christ. If you missed the meeting but want to hear the reports, contact the church office for a CD. This goes for snowbirds as well… hope you are cool… we miss you!
In terms of investing time and talent in the church, the committees that plan and implement much of the work of the church reconvene at “Committee Night” in Fellowship Hall on August 12, 2014 at 7 p.m. We have a brief worship service and then break out. Our committees are: Children, Youth and Family Ministry, Facilities, Finance, Mission, Outreach, Personnel and Administration, and Worship and Music. You may contact me directly at [email protected] to be assigned a committee or come to the meeting and be advised. A highlight of our church is the people you meet. No matter where you serve, you’ll be blessed by the company you keep!
There is much more news in the pages ahead, read on!
See you in Church,
Tim

The
“providing a bright light of love & hope for the community”
July is fading and we are heading into the last break before school, work and volunteer opportunities kick back into gear. Now is a time to do some things that are perhaps harder to accomplish than at other times of the year. I hope we all use this “opportunity time” wisely.
As you read this article, I will be at Columbia Theological Seminary preparing for the fall. I will be finishing up reading and reflecting on the book of Psalms … thanks for those reading along! I will also read several books that have awaited my attention. These books will inform a sermon series on Jesus this fall and a Shepherd Center course on Jesus, held at Eastminster October 2-Nov. 20, tentatively entitled, “Who is Jesus (to You)?” In case you want to read along, the books are: McLaren, Brian D. We Make the Road by Walking: A Year Long Quest for Spiritual Formation, Reorientation and Activation (New York: Jericho Books, 2014), 282 pp.
Ortberg, John. Who is this Man? The Unpredictable Impact of the Inescapable Jesus (Grand Rapids: Zondervan, 2012), 220 pp.
Wright, N.T. Simply Jesus: A New Vision of Who He Was, What He Did, and Why He Matters (New York; HarperCollins Publishers, 2011), 240 pp.
All books are available via Amazon. May they inform heart and soul as well as the head!
I hope that you were able to be at the mid-year Congregational Meeting on July 20. We heard progress reports in the areas of Children, Youth and Family Ministries; Worship and Music; Outreach; and Finance. The bottom line of the meeting to me is that EPC is doing remarkably well, especially considering the events of the last few years. Like most healthy churches, we have mission advances and financial challenges. The

THIS SUMMER – READ THE BOOK OF PSALMS: The congrega-tion is encouraged to read The Book of Psalms between now and August 16th. Bookmarks are available on The Information Station.
2014 LOVE INC DINNER FUNDRAISER will be held on Tuesday, August 5th, at 6:00 p.m., at the Melbourne Auditorium. Tickets on sale now: $10 per person or $30 per family in advance, $15 per person at the door. You may pick up tickets in the church office.
VOLUNTEER NEEDED: We are looking for a volunteer for Monday or Tuesday afternoons to change the signage on our corner lot. Please contact Kathy if interested, at 723-8371. REV. JENNIFER McGEE will be completing her work here at East-minster and the church will be giving Jennifer a framed collection of East-minster images. We invite the congregation to sign this unique gift along the margins before the final framing. This art work will be avail-able for signing in the work room in the church office until August 17th, and we invite you to stop by to sign it after services or during the week. It will be completely framed and presented to Rev. McGee at her reception. We will be hosting a cake reception after the Sunday service on August 24, 2014 to honor Rev. McGee’s remarkable time with us and her exciting fu-ture. Cake will be served and gifts will be presented, either in the gather-ing area or fellowship hall, depending on Mother Nature’s own gifts that day. Please make a note on your calendar and we invite you to come cele-brate Rev. McGee.
RUMMAGE SALE: We are in need of a Chair and Committee to volunteer to make this event a success. Please leave your name, phone #, and area of interest with the church office. DAILY BREAD: Eastminster has been asked if we would help serve lunch on the second Tuesdays of each month. We began this “leap of faith” schedule last month (July). There are now teams in place to work every month along with some substitutes. Our next sched-uled serve date is Tuesday, August 12. Anyone willing to serve meals to the hungry in our community would be deeply appreciated. Please con-tact Barbara Allen at 777-7052 or [email protected] if you would like to be included in this very humbling experience.

SCHOOL IS BACK IN SESSION: Can you believe it? Seems like summer just began. Teachers
report Monday, Aug. 11 for both public school and Eastminster’s Preschool; students report
Monday, Aug. 18. Watch carefully when driving and be in prayer for students, teachers and par-
ents as another school year begins.
Many thanks to all who either donated money to purchase school supplies and to those who took time to shop for the supplies this summer. The kids from Master's Workshop will be able to begin the school year with new back packs filled with necessary school supplies thanks to your kind and generous donations. Once again, EPC has shown God's love in caring and providing for those in need. May we continue to find opportunity and joy in serv-ing others in our community and beyond. God bless you!
AUGUST POT LUCK
Our next Pot Luck will be August 13th, with a “Back-to-School” theme. This will be a joint event with Fellowship and the Pre-school. The Preschool families are invited to join us. The Preschool staff will plan some great games for all the children to participate in.
Fried chicken will be provided as the main dish. If you have a photo of yourself from your graduation, please drop a copy or the photo off with Becky so she can make a copy. We would like these pictures for a little game. All photos will be returned to you.
