Evening Book Club – The

Book Club will meet next on

Monday, November 19th at

5:30 PM. The book this month is “Spilled

Milk: Based on a True Story” by PLOT:

Brooke Nolan is a battered child who makes an

anonymous phone call about the escalating

brutality in her home. When social services

jeopardize her safety condemning her to keep

her father’s secret, it’s a glass of spilled milk

at the dinner table that forces her to speak

about the cruelty she’s been hiding. In her

pursuit for safety and justice Brooke battles a

broken system that pushed to keep her father

in the home. When jury members and a love

interest congregate to inspire her to fight, she

risks losing the support of family and comes to

the realization that some people simply do not

want to be saved. Spilled Milk is a novel of

shocking narrative, triumph and resiliency.

Please call Paula at 978 762-0208 x104 if you

will be attending.

Memory Café is coming to the Senior Center! A Memory Café is a welcoming place for people

with forgetfulness or other changes in their thinking and for their family and friends.

Memory Cafés meet at a variety of places in Massachusetts communities. Each memory café is

different. Some cafés invite guest artists, some offer information about memory changes and

all cafés are about relaxing and chatting. All cafés share these goals:

• To help guests feel comfortable and to know they are not alone.

• To talk with others who understand what you are going through.

• To leave behind limitations and instead focus on strengths.

• To enjoy the company of others.

• To explore something new.

Join us for refreshments, activities and conversation in a welcoming place for caregivers and

individuals living with memory changes November 13th 1:30-3pm. RSVP requested but not

required. For further information, contact Judith Ryan 978-762-0208

MEMORY CAFÉ

Need Help with Your Medicare Plan Comparisons during Open Enrollment?

It’s that time of year again! If you are enrolled in a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan or a

Medicare Advantage Plan (HMO/PPO), you should be mailed an information packet from your

plan by the end of September. It is important to understand and save this information

because it explains the changes in your plan for 2019. Premiums, deductibles, co-pays and the

drugs covered by your plan can change significantly.

During the annual Medicare Open Enrollment, you will have a chance to CHANGE your plan for

next year. SHINE Counselors can help you understand your plan changes, other options you

may have, and even enroll you in a new plan during Open Enrollment from October 15 through

December 7th!

Trained SHINE counselors offer free, confidential counseling on all aspects of Medicare and

related health insurance programs. Call the Danvers Council on Aging at 978-762-0208 to

schedule a phone consultation or in-person appointment. For other SHINE related matters, call

your Regional SHINE Headquarters at Mystic Valley Elder Services: 781-388-4845.

Jewelry Donations for Annual Holiday Fair

Since we sold out of all our jewelry at the Holiday Fair last year, we are starting to accept

donations of costume jewelry for our Holiday Fair this December. You may drop jewelry

donations to Paula anytime now. As always, thank you all for your support!

The Danvers People to People Food Pantry is accepting donations

for hats, gloves and mittens for children ages 5-17 years old. You

can bring your donations to the Senior Center by 12/14/18 and

ask for Maureen. The winter months are upon us, lets help save

the kids from cold hands with your warm hearted donations.

Thank you.

GROUP SUPPORT

If you would like to learn more about the Low Vision Support Group or Challenges of Living Alone, call Lisa

Westrate, group facilitator, at 978-762-0208 x105. For transportation to the group contact

Lorene Machado at 978-762-0208.

LOW VISION SUPPORT GROUP:

This group is for those experiencing any type of vision loss ranging from a small degree of vision loss to

those who are totally blind. We meet on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 10:30am. At our next meeting

on November 8th, Grace Cummings, mobility specialist from Massachusetts Commission for the Blind

(MCB), will join us to share about how the White Cane program can help you navigate more safely and

independently. She’ll talk about how those with legal blindness are eligible to receive individualized

instruction to mobilize around the community.

CHALLENGES OF LIVING ALONE (CLA):

The CLA group is open to anyone looking for support in successful solo-survival! Please pay attention! Our

next two meetings are meeting on a different day of the month than usual. CHALLENGES OF LIVING

ALONE (CLA): The CLA group is open to anyone looking for support in successful solo-survival! Please

note! There are changes to our meeting schedule for November and December because our usual fourth

Thursday of the month falls on Thanksgiving Day and the week of Christmas. We are going to meet

TWICE in November 1st and 5th Thursdays of the month. On November 1st, we are going to learn about

eligibility requirements and application process for Senior Housing in Danvers and the surrounding areas.

You will get specific information about housing site locations and income limits as well as a general idea of

what to expect. On Thursday, November 29th, we will take a ride around Danvers to see the Senior

Housing sites.

MEDICARE ANNUAL FALL ENROLLMENT

On Wednesday, 11/14/18 at 10:45 am, Lisa Westrate, Certified SHINE Counselor, will fill us in on changes

in Medicare for 2019. During Medicare’s Fall Enrollment Period, running from October 15 to December 7,

you may change your Medicare Prescription Drug/Part D Plan or Medicare Advantage Plan for next year.

Additionally, if you previously enrolled in Medicare, but never signed up for a Prescription Drug Plan, open

enrollment is your chance to do so. Please pre-register at the front desk for this informative session. It’s wise to review your current coverage each year to see whether it will continue to provide you with the

best coverage for the lowest overall cost. You may wonder why your current plan wouldn’t continue to

serve you in 2019 as well as it did in 2018. There are many factors that go into prescription drug costs

including contracts between drug plans and pharmacies, changes in the drug plan’s formulary of covered

medications, release of generic medications, etc. These variables can produce differences of hundreds to

thousands of dollars. Even if you can’t make it to the Medicare presentation, make an appointment with a

SHINE counselor at Danvers Counsel on Aging. You can also call 1-800-243-4636 option #3 for a list of

local SHINE counselors, or call Medicare at 1-800-633-4227 to get help finding a plan.
