CONGREGATIONAL COUNCIL MEETING

Our Fall Congregational Council Meeting will be held November 19, 2017

following the morning worship service. The Congregational Council Meeting

is for church members to make decisions that will affect our church life

together and our ministries. The annual meeting is being planned by the

executive board and church moderator. The purpose of this meeting is to

conduct the official business of the year to include; approving the Spring’s

Congregation Council Meeting Minutes, making and receiving

reports, voting on the 2018 budget, affirming delegates and new leaders to

the board and other committees, and discussing staffing needs of the

church and any other official business. This meeting provides a very

important avenue to guide and celebrate the membership of the church.

Members and friends of MCoB are encouraged to attend. A lunch

sponsored by the youth will be offered. Please keep our church and the

church business at hand in your prayers.

Goals and Purpose Survey Results Are In About 6 months ago, the Goals and Purpose Committee conducted a

survey of the congregation. The questionnaire resembled one that was

given in 2008, and about 100 people participated. It was a survey that

opens dialogue about our faith within this body of Christ. By taking the

survey it was the hope that our church body would benefit from

understanding each other better. All of the questions centered around

worship, discipleship, ministry and fellowship. The results from the survey

are in and the Goals and Purpose Team will lead a presentation about the

survey at the upcoming Congregational Council Meeting.

The Pastors and the staff at The

Manassas Church of the Brethren

would like from heart to heart to

wish everyone the gift of faith and

the blessings of hope this

Thanksgiving Season. May this

special day be a beautiful reminder

of all the wonderful things God has

to offer us.

Happy Thanksgiving!

PASTORS’ STUDY

Giving Thanks! God is good! All the time! Just as Paul wrote to the church in Thessalonica, so I write to you, the Manassas Church of the

Brethren, “I give thanks to God for all of you and mention you in my prayers, constantly remembering before our God your

work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.”

When Pastor Chris first started his medical leave, I was a little overwhelmed to take on the extra responsibilities and

pastoral duties in his absence. However, I know that God is faithful and I also have full confidence that God equips those

whom He has called to serve (Hebrews 13:21). I also know the strength of this congregation, the love and support you all

have for each other and this community, and the gifts that you all freely and generously share as the body of Christ. So, I

took a step of faith, as we all did on this journey together, concerned for Pastor Chris and his health and concerned for the

health of our congregation moving forward.

As our moderator, John Phillips, reminded us that this is our time to be the church. And “be the church” is exactly what we

continue to do each and every day! Ministry teams offer their skills and time to serve where needed most: lining up worship

leaders, fixing IT issues, maintaining the property, and teaching Sunday school classes. Our deacons take tender care of our

members who are sick, hospitalized, or in need of a visit or meal. And members take care of each other in wonderful ways,

checking in with folks they haven’t seen in a while, mailing cards of encouragement to each other with a word of hope, and

showing up when your presence is needed and most welcome.

I have appreciated all the ways that you have communicated with me openly and honestly about our ministerial needs and

the way that the Spirit has been moving in your lives and in the life of this church going forward.

I know that these are uncertain times, knowing that Pastor Chris is unable to work full time, but I also know that God is

faithful and no matter where the Spirit leads us, we will continue the work of Jesus, peacefully, simply, together because we

are a community of care where our relationships matter and our Christian discipleship counts. All the time! God is good!

Amen.

New Advent Devotional for 2017

“The Magnificent Story”

We are invited to encounter the people and places and events of the Advent

story, and even some ideas it has inspired, in order to come closer to the One

who gave us the story. In the midst of the activities, hustle and bustle and chal-

lenges of the Christmas Season, these devotions give us moments of quiet and

of joy! The reason Christ Birth has power is because God speaks to the heart.

May we open our hearts once again to the magnificent time and remember

the power of God’s love for all people.

CONGREGATIONAL COUNCIL LUNCHEON

On November 19, our youth are providing lunch for the Congregational Council Meeting immediately following

the morning service. Yvonne Rankin is leading this meal, so please look for more details to come from her and the

Rankin family.

T-SHIRT DESIGNS Deanna Gage, Elise Gage, and Kim Kirkwood have worked hard designing new shirts for the Manassas COB.

Let us know which one is your favorite!

We are hoping to order new shirts in time for

National Youth Conference this summer.

The t-shirts can be pink, orange, green, or blue.

Cast your vote by making a donation to the Youth

Ministry Program. The t-shirt design that raises the

most money will WIN!

Small Business Saturday Shopping Extravaganza-NOVEMBER 25 Tina F., Terrie C., and Susan D. are working on the Youth Vendor Fair for November 25th - Small Business Saturday. Anna Williams has already agreed to work on our marketing. We will be working on the main logistics but need a little help with a parent (or two) to volunteer as on-site logistics coordinator (be at the main table for check in and questions) and someone to handle hourly raffles of items donated by the various vendors. We need: Vendor Onsite Lead - Work with Susan and Tina as we get closer to the event and be there at 7:00 AM to help set up the room, working to check in the vendors and handling small things. (Tina and Susan will be there are both vendors too. They can help direct you!) Raffle Coordinator - Collect the raffle donations from each vendor and hand out drawing tickets to each shopper. Do the drawing starting at 10:00 am (on the hour) Youth Kitchen Coordinator - Help the youth get donuts and coffee and juice for morning sales and possible hot dogs and chips and drinks for lunch sales. You and the youth can decide those logistics. Set up of some tables and chairs for the vendors. They each will get an 8 foot table and 2 chairs, if desired, as part of their vendor fee. Finally, if you are a small business owner and would like to participate, please let us know. Other than LuLaRoe (due to the differences in inventory), we will only accept one vendor per product so get your business in first to Tina or Susan!
