Dear Colleagues,

The second quarter was filled with activities both on the corporate and the business fronts. With effect from 28 April 2011, our name has been officially changed to KS Energy Limited to better reflect the activities of the Group.

Both the Distribution and Drilling units were extremely busy as they moved across the region securing contracts. With their efforts, we secured a total of S$210 million in new contracts with global oil majors including Shell, Exxon Mobil, Pertamina and many others. These new contracts include the supply of new components to China for the construction of new rigs as well as charter contracts for our rigs to drill in China, Indonesia and the North Sea in UK.

Having chartered all our rigs, we commissioned COSCO to construct two LeTourneau WORKHORSE Class design rigs in May. Built at a total project cost of US$388 million, these rigs are targeted to be delivered between 27 to 32 months. With the addition of these two new rigs, we will now have a fleet of twelve rigs.

Chairman's Message

On the social front, after an absence of 2 years, we held our Dinner and Dance on 3 June at the newly built Resorts World Hotel in Sentosa. The event successfully brought

together all our colleagues from the KS Energy Group in Singapore and we were also joined by our guests from Indonesia, Middle East, USA and China. The camaraderie was evident and everyone took the pleasure of re-establishing their friendships and catching up with each other. Attended by about 1,000 employees and guests, the event was a success. I commend all the participants who joined the games without reservations. Their wonderful spirit brought hilarious laughter that reverberated through the ballroom during the entire evening.

With the business consolidation behind us, I hope to integrate our people and together we will work to expand our market share. The opportunities are just at our

doorstep. In the KS Energy family, each of us has an important role to play and together we form a perfect fit. This fit is the strength that will keep competition

at bay.

The road ahead of us is challenging. But I am confident that we will be able to overcome obstacles and emerge a stronger organization,

poised to tap into new business opportunities.

To our Muslim colleagues who celebrated Hari Raya in August and to our Indian colleagues who will soon be celebrating

Deepavali, may I wish you and your family happiness, peace and good health.

Atlantic Rotterdam, the only Jack-Up Accommodation rig in the fleet, underwent a Special Periodic Survey (SPS) in August last year. The job, which includes renewal of hull

steel, leg bracing and broken teeth per ABS requirement, was carried out by Remontowa Ship Repair Yard in

Gdansk, Poland. Painting of all the tanks, hull and living quarters were also part of the project.

riCHArD JAMEs WiLUAn Born in Singapore, richard Wiluan, executive Director of

KS Distribution, spent his childhood in Jakarta, Indonesia. At the tender age of 9, he learnt to be independent,

schooling abroad in the United Kingdom. He was placed in the Dragon School, a boarding school in Oxford, while

his parents resided in Indonesia. His two siblings were also in the U.K. “It was a great experience, I learnt a lot of things and was exposed to many different cultures,” said richard. His passion to learn and experience new things

continued when he decided to go to Japan before starting his university education in nottingham in 1998. He worked

as a Management Trainee in a number of large Japanese companies including nippon Steel and Sumitomo Metal.

Again, richard admitted that it

was a great opportunity as he could learn the different business cultures in Japan. After graduating from nottingham University, he pursued a career in Aviation insurance broking firm in London.

It was not until 2006 when he finally moved back to Singapore and decided to join KS energy group a year later. It was purely his decision to dive into the Company chaired by his father, Kris Wiluan. “My father gave us the freedom to pursue our own careers. He has never forced me to work with him, but I knew he was very happy with my decision,” said richard with a smile. Pak Kris has been a great influence in richard’s life, “He is my inspiration,” said the taekwondo black belt holder. The youngest of three is also very close to his mother, elizabeth, who plays a pivotal role in his upbringing.

Married to ginny in 2008, they are now happy parents to two little boys, Kristian, 27 months and ryan, 3 months. “My wife is a great mother, she takes good care of our boys,” said richard. “I really enjoy fatherhood. I love spending time with the boys; accompanying Kristian in his swimming class or even changing diapers for baby ryan, I love doing it!” shared richard. Weekend for the family is always fun. They will have lunch with the extended families, enjoying good food. “gastronomy has always been my passion,” shared richard who enjoys cooking. His specialty is French and Italian food which he picked up during his university years. However, he can not resist Japanese food and nasi Padang, a spicy Indonesian dish which he always looks forward to whenever he is in Indonesia. Although he enjoys travelling, richard has to put on hold his desire to bring his wife for a romantic holiday in europe. “The kids are still too young,” he reasoned. Focusing on his family and career now, nevertheless, “Family is my biggest priority in life.”

The rig started to move from esbjerg to gdansk on 10 February 2010 following an extensive reactivation involving more than 40 people from various Atlantic Oilfield Services (AOS) subcontractors. The move was in order to get ABS Certificate for Single Voyage. During tow, Atlantic rotterdam was caught in an unpredicted wind and was forced to shelter in Skagen and Angelholm. Thankfully, it entered gdansk Channel, surrounded by freezing -20°C temperature, on 21 February 2010. The shipyard works started a week later with maintenance program prepared by the Technical Department.

131,000 Man-hours without LTI!

Health, Safety and environment (HSe) is always on top of our agenda. Hence, the HSe team was stationed on-site throughout the project. The efforts paid off, with 131,000 man-hours without any Lost Time Incident (LTI)! given the level of work involved, most of which was confined space entry and working at heights, this represented a significant achievement of which all parties involved should be proud of. The quality of steel and paint job was excellent with very little repairs after inspection and to the satisfaction of the ABS Surveyor.

This summarizes yet another very cold and snowy SPS in which the efforts in planning, execution and completion of the project were impressive by any standards. The teamwork has been the ultimate factor toward the success of the project. The common goal and cooperation with all parties including remontowa made this yard stay smooth and transparent indeed.

It has been great to see the excellent results when a dedicated and qualified team is composed. A Big ‘Thank you’ to all involved!

AiDiLFiTri CelebrationUniTED ArAB EMirATEs (UAE)Mohammed Gouda - KS Drilling

In UAe, Aidilfitri or eid Al-Fitr celebration starts with eid Prayers in congregation attended by Muslims of all ages; men, women and children. Afterwards, they would greet “eid Mubarak” to one another. Children, particularly, enjoy the festivities. They don new clothes throughout the eid and receive an eid-ey-yah, a small amount of money, from their adult relatives. Women, also receive special gifts from their loved ones. Family gatherings are usually filled with special food such as Kahk, cookies filled with nuts and covered with powdered sugar. “I pay a visit to my relative with my father and two brothers after the eid Prayer. We also give eid-ey-yah to the children. In the evening, I will celebrate with my friend,” shared Mohammed.

MYAnMAr Zin Mar Myint Thu – KS Energy

Muslims in Myanmar start Aidilfitri celebration with charity acts. Organized by the mosque, family members give donations to the poor prior to Morning Prayer. The money collected is

distributed equally to the less fortunate in the afternoon. In her hometown in Mogok, Aidilfitri is celebrated for three consecutive days. The last few days of ramadan, her family would be busy

with preparation of food such as chicken briyani, coconut rice and curry for their union feast. They also prepare Kyar-san-chat, vermicelli cooked with chicken soup, dried mushroom and

fishcake for the guest. “My wish is to stay healthy and happy with my family to celebrate many more Hari raya. Selamat Hari raya and May Allah‘s Blessings be always with all of us.”

inDonEsiAIsti Hapsari – PT KSD Indonesia

In Indonesia, before the start of ramadan, family members will perform “nyekar”, a tradition to pray and clean a tomb of their ancestor. During Aidifiltri, families gather to ask for forgiveness and exchange “Minal Aidin Wal Fa Idzin” greeting. Some also visit recreational parks to celebrate their successful completion of fasting month. Isti and her family start the celebration with morning prayers followed by a visit to their parents and senior family members where the family gathering is held. They would enjoy traditional food like Ketupat, Opor, Sambal goreng and rendang. “May the beauty of ramadan and Idul Fitri brighten our life until we meet again the next ramadan, Insya Allah….,” she wished.

QATArSalim Rehman – Aqua-Terra Middle East

Having resided alone in Doha, Qatar, Salim celebrates eid Al-Fitr simply. He would pray at the mosque in the morning and prepare lunch for his relatives and friends who will be visiting him

in the afternoon. Salim shared that back at his hometown in southern India, on eid Al-Fitr, male family members offer special prayers in the morning, while women prepare special dishes for breakfast and lunch. They will have dates, nuts and sheer korma, a milk-based sweet dish for

breakfast. Friends and relatives will start to visit at noon, and they will enjoy lunch together with lamb briyani on the menu. “I wish all happiness and success,” he wished.

rosnawati and her family would usually go to her parents’ house during Aidilfitri to help them entertain guests and wait for the younger families to visit. This was done after the Morning Prayer at the mosque. The family prepared special dishes such as Beef rendang, Lontong, Serunding, Sayur Lodeh, Fried Chicken Wing and Ayam Masak Merah for their family gathering. Pineapple tarts, makmur, cookies and cakes were also served. “Looking forward to good health, blessing and better future for all mankind,” she wished.

inDiA Sundara Moorthy Saravana Kumar – KS Marinehub

Saravana and his family celebrate Deepavali, one of the most important festivals for Hindus, with tradition. “We start the day by performing pooja (offerings) early in the morning, then visit relatives, friends and neighbors to distribute sweets. In the evening, we will enjoy fireworks and fire crackers,” shared Saravana. A feast

with his family will usually have idli with vadacurry and gee dhosa, completed with sweet desserts like kesari, gulab jamun and tasty snacks such as muruku, adhurasam, and sweet somas. As he looks forward to the joyous occasion, his

wish is to celebrate the festival happy and safe.

A SPIrITUAL JOUrney InTO THe CHArMIng & TrAnQUIL sri LAnKA

Our flight from Singapore took four hours to reach Colombo International Airport. A totally different pace of life welcomed us, where people are not in a hurry and they expect the same from

you. It took us nearly an hour to change money at the money changer. nevertheless, we quickly immersed ourselves into the

pace and had no single complaint at all.

Our destination was Kandy, a three-hour bus ride from the airport. On the way to Kandy, we had a stopover at a coffee shop to

try their famous masala milk tea. We were overwhelmed by the selection of pastries, sweets and bread at the bakery, and have to

take a fair courage to try especially the masala pastries!

A hot delicious vegetarian lunch was served after we reached the Meditation Centre and settled down.

Day 2

Day 3

Day 4

Day 5

Day 6 onwards

Our second day was spent commemorating the 8th death anniversary of the temple’s Master. Candles were lit in the evening and monks from other temples joined in the chanting. All monks and nuns (a.k.a manuals) must cleanse their feet before entering the prayer halls. A white string is coiled around the main shrine and everyone was asked to hold a part of the string during the prayers.

As a gesture of appreciation, we offered to host the Dhana and bring the offerings up to the shrine from the canteen barefoot.

During lunch time, we did the same again and held a small ceremony thereafter to pass our accumulated merits. We

experienced a sense of serenity and happiness through all the unconditional giving.

We visited a town nearby and were surprised to find a true replica of our Little India. More visits were organized to other holy places and meditation centres. The place was very magical and holy because the rain came to garnish our visit and before we left each place, it would stop totally.

It was Poson Poya Day, the grandest occasion in Sri Lanka. It commemorates the day that Venerable Mahinda officially introduced Buddhism into Sri Lanka. People celebrate the day with processions, festival and offerings on the streets.

We joined a 3Day2night tours. Below are some interesting places we visited.

Kurunagala Another one of the main highlights of the trip, we made a short stop here before embarking on our 3Day2night tour. releasing

of the cows would bring about accumulation of good merits, which was our key purpose of the trip. The meditation centre

would then arrange for the cows bought to be sent to a green pasture where they would be well taken care of.

Dambulla’s Rock TempleIt consists of 5 caves and is said to have been built by Kings who lived in the 1st Century B.C. At the foot of the rocky hill

stood a newly built golden Temple with modern architectural design and in it was a tall golden Buddha of approximately a

thousand feet.

AnuradhapuraWe visited the Sri Maha Bodhi, one of the oldest trees in the world. This said Bodhi Tree grew out of a sapling from the original tree where Buddha attained his enlightenment (India). Just a short distance from here was the great Stupa which was built by Dutugemunu, a heroic king of the Mahavamsa.

MihintaleWe climbed up the peak barefoot, where the steps going up were uneven and slippery. The passage was narrow and steep, coupled with strong wind blowing and people who were coming down while you were proceeding up. The view from above was spectacular; a worth the time and effort taken.

Temple of the Tooth A must go place if you are in the vicinity of Kandy. Due to past armed attacks by the infamous Tamil Tigers, the security was very tight, however it was an experience to relate especially during evening time.

We helped in offering the Dhana and assisted in giving out food to the public before partaking in our fair share. At the centre, devotees usually wake up at 3:45am for morning prayers followed by preparations for the morning Dhana, whereas evening prayers starts at 4.30pm. At the end of each prayer, there would be a short loving kindness meditation session under the guideline of the manuals.
