A Levels /12th Pass Outs. Students having

passed 10th can be accepted through a

personal interview. This course is also ideal

for individuals pursuing alternate

Who is the Course for?

The course is aimed at individuals wanting to

pursue careers within the fashion industry

either as designers or as fashion boutique

owners. Individuals with specific personal

objectives and goals can achieve the same

through a final project directed towards

individual student needs.

Course Description

lThe fashion design courses at FAD

International aim at training Fashion

Students on both design and technical areas

within Fashion. The course looks at Fashion

in totality where higher emphasis is laid on

developing the creative thought process and

understanding the design methodology

before experimenting with technical aspects

of garment construction. The course allows

students to realize their individuality through

self research and projects apart from guided

lectures and industry visits.Taught through

an integrated approach, the course at all

levels helps students to connect their

learning to real life industry situations. The

courses also integrate learning on global

fashion through the Europe study tour

covering some of the fashion capitals of the

world and with further support through

exclusive FAD coverage of fashion events

across the globe.

The students have access to state-of the art studio facilities with industry based machinery from Singer, Reece, Brother, Juki and others to support their technical learning and an internationally sourced library to support research and further learning.

On successful completion of the course students would be able to further progress onto higher education as well be able to work as design professional with an individual style.

COURSE STRUCTURESyllabus Outline

The syllabus outline gives you a brief

introduction to modules that are taught and

ach ieved on the Fashion Des ign

Programme.

Art & Design Foundation

This module aims at developing basic art &

design skills which forms an important part of

any design course. Colour theories, basic

illustration skills, life drawing, elements of

design & relevant subjects are achieved

alongside creative development & thinking.

Further, the foundation module also allows

students from fashion to study alongside

individuals from other departments and get

an interdisciplinary perspective.

Sessions on fashion, art, photography, film

making, design and other subjects give

students a holistic perspective on how the

creative industry works in a global context.

On completion of this module students

achieve foundation skills in design as well as

get a broader perspective on art, design,

media and fashion industries. At this stage,

students can also choose to change their

course based on their initial learning&

understanding at a foundation level.

Design Studies

This module forms an important part of the

course and imparts creative and technical

skills required to develop student's design

skills to match industry professional

standards.

The module aims at understanding the

process and stages involved in design

development from an initial concept to a final

creation.Further, students also develop non-

fashion products through interdisciplinary

assignments to broaden individual design

sense and skills. The module is taught

through practical studio work.

Technical Studies

[Garment Development, Pattern Drafting &

Cutting]

Through this module students will explore

the progressive stages involved in the

manufacturing process, and the influence of

the process on design decisions. Students

will gain experience in understanding

technical requirements whilst exploring

design/commercial restraints imposed by

various markets. Students learn elements of

draping, drafting, cutting and stitching

supported by the state of the art fashion

factory at FAD. Combined with knowledge

on design studies and other creative

modules, students achieve a highly

professional fashion collection at the end of

the year.

Fashion Illustration

One of the most important forms of visual

communication, fashion illustration module

covers a range of technical and creative

subjects and further helps develop an

individual style for each student. Elements

such as life drawing, figure drawing, a

comparison of the standard and the fashion

figure, creating developmental sheets using

croquis, preparing a working drawing,

application of colour and related techniques,

illustrating fabric and texture form just part of

the learning in this module. Further,

integrated projects with other modules allow

students to combine their illustration skills

with their design and technical skills to

achieve a comprehensive visual portfolio.

Global Fashion Awareness

With a global context to learning at FAD, the

module through its internationally qualified

faculty base aims at providing students with

exposure to International Fashion Trends,

Global Fashion Weeks, knowledge on

international design houses, fashion capitals

and more. Audio visual learning resources

such as exclusive fashion week coverage,

interviews and documentaries with leading

industry professionals combined with a

world class library resource provides

students with an opportunity acquire

unparalleled insight into the global fashion

industry.

Fashion Styling

The module covers practical studio based

learning where students work closely with

fashion designers, fashion photographers,

artists and make up and hairstylists on joint

assignments. Students cover various

elements of styling such as corrective

anatomy styling, styling for fashion shoots

and commercials, wardrobe makeovers,

personal styling, event and celebrity styling

and more with an objective of working on

industry specific requirements.

COURSE STRUCTUREGlobal Fashion History

History forms an important part of learning on

the course as it allows students to

understand the wider impact of social,

cultural, technological and political

influences on fashion through historical

times. With a focus on European history from

the early 14thCentury, students learn

through research and lectures and achieve a

strong visual understanding of key

developments within the fashion industry

across the world.

Textile Studies

The module covers broader aspects of

textiles and fabrics and further relates the

importance and impact of textiles in fashion.

Identification of fibres, fabric classification,

properties, the production process, fabric

treatments, trends and developments et al

are investigated through lectures, studio

tests and industry visits. Further the impact

of fabrics on design and the development of

a fashion garment is investigated through

several assignments. At the end of the

module student develop a personal Textile

Library with comprehensive information on

all aspects of various fabrics and textiles

available for future professional use.

Professional Studies And Portfolio

Development

This module is designed to give students an

understanding of the professional processes

and practices generic to the global design

industry. Students develop interpersonal

skills, understand the commercial aspects of

the industry and achieve individual

objectives of either being trained to work

within the industry or start an independent

fashion venture. Further, through this

module students compile a professional

portfolio of work achieved through the year

for further career or academic progression.

SEMESTER ABROAD IN ITALYSemester Abroad Option

FAD International students have an

exclusive opportunity to continue a semester

at Worlds Leading Fashion School IED Italy.

Students can pursue an entire term at IED

Italy Milan, the worlds fashion capital, and

get to be part of the Italian Fashion System.

Students completing the second term at IED

Italy will be honored with a Dual Certification

by IED Italy & FAD International India.

Students can either choose the January to

June Semester or the September to

December Semester to study in Milan.

Semester In Fashion Design - Building

collection

The objective of the "trend" semester is to

deepen the student's understanding of the

" I ta l ian des ign sys tem" f rom the

management and design methodology

perspective. Course content and site visits

focus on building a solid analytical and

theoretical base in order to interpret and

understand trends.Students will be

introduced to the unequalled atmosphere of

Italian Fashion World: with its continuous

innovations in style, unrivalled number of

style production related companies,

international fashion shows and boutiques.

The IED approach offers students the unique

opportunity to work directly with industry

professionals as part of their academic

experience and professional development

thanks to long-standing relationships with

Italian fashion and design industry leaders.

Students will have the option to extend to a

full "Academic Year / One Year" program by

adding an additional semester either in the

same field or different discipline or they can

opt for the Two City Option by enrolling in an

additional semester at another IED location

offering semester programs.

Art In Fashion: An historical and critical

analysis of modern and contemporary

artistic movements and artists of the 19th

and 20th Century: Impressionism, Post

I m p r e s s i o n i s m , A r t N o u v e a u ,

Expressionism, Cubism, Surrealism. An

integral part of the course will be site visits

including relevant historical sites, museums

and exhibitions

Computer Design Applications

Mastery of Photoshop and Illustrator in order

to complete projects. Introduction to the

software tools used for the design and the

communication of a collection, developing

various techniques applied to fashion

designing

Communication

How "dressing" is a means of individual,

social and cultural communication. Clothing

and accessories are filters and junctions for

the articulation of the dynamic dialogues

amongst me, myself, my body, the others,

my culture, and my expectations. Analysis

will focus on the different communication

levels mediated by clothes; communicating

myself: work on the different communication

levels mediated by clothes; cultural

background; Decorating the senses;

Keywords and mood boards. Project work

will consist of producing a fashion/

jewelry/accessories collection and book

project.

SEMESTER ABROAD IN ITALYHistory Of Fashion And Accessories

The fashion world and its evolution from the second part of the 19th century to today; Introduction to the most significant rudiments of history of costume from the Italian Renaissance to Napoleon; The relationships between political and social changes and costume development; The fundamental role of fashion designers and accessories designers in these changes, the ability to translate all with their own abilities and understanding of Fashion.

Introduction To Color

Discussion of the key issues linked to the use of color. Appraisal of color management methods, considered as a project tool. The Chromatic system; Color physics and chromatic harmony; The perception and the social use of color; Color matching techniques; The reading of Loesche psychological test; Demonstrations and practical exercises on color matching and color board development.

Semester In Fashion Design - Creative Collections

The Creative Collections semester is c o n c e i v e d a n d s t r u c t u r e d a s a comprehensive overview of the Italian leaders in fashion and textile design: professionals, companies, trademarks, events and trade fairs connected with the world of style.The Creative Collections semester focuses on three main objectives:The acquisition of a multidisciplinary methodology needed to produce a collection

Application of the expression languages and representation tools of the industry;

Master the fundamental skil ls and techniques necessary to design clothing collections and to supervise technical development, choice of fabrics and coordination.The “project work” semester is structured around courses that introduce the Italian design system, understanding company and marketing dynamics, analyzing current trends in interior design in terms of language, and understanding form and materials. Academic Programme & Modules

Design Methodology

Introduces contemporary trends and designers in order to gain consciousness about one’s identity and positioning vis-a-via fashion. This serves as the foundation for the following course components and projects: research, detection and analysis of a concept; stylistic knowledge of the sector and of trends; idea development; key elements of the moodboard; realization of a book of materials and colors; application of the individual working and presentation of a final look book.

Fashion Pattern Making And Tailoring Techniques

Covers the basics pattern making and tailoring techniques. Particular emphasis will be given to the womenswear and menswear coordinated collections and their realization. Concepts of pattern cutting and sewing, with a specific glossary of terms necessary to develop the technical ability to make garment patterns and prototypes will be covered. A detailed analysis of the technical terms and design for the creation of the following patterns: skirt, trouser, bodice, corset, dress, t-shirt, sleeves, collars, pockets, buttoning and fastening, zippers and cutting placement.

Menswear Collection Project

Introduction to the fundamentals of designing a coordinated collection of men’s clothing. Research on trends and fabrics for the chosen theme, in order to find the right ideas and the inspiration, which will be developed afterwards. Main topics include: realization of a book, starting from the choice of the concept; the presentation of the moodboards for atmosphere; colors and the inspiration key words and images, focusing then on single theme. The course will conclude with a final presentation of a

collection book consisting of: figure designs, details in the style, colors, fabric swatches with the description of the yarns, quality, supplier, art, number etc.

Personal Design And Portfolio

Is concerned with improving confidence and ability in drawing and examines a variety of approaches that can be used in fashion illustration. This is the basis for the creation of a final personal portfolio. Main course topics include: research preliminary to mood-boards; technical drawing for fashion and the representation of student’s collection items; study of the main techniques experimented in illustrations; study of the more innovative and experimental illustration techniques (such as media, spry art, collage and performance) aiming at leading every student to the development of a personal drawing language; realization of a personal portfolio that will be submitted for the exam.

Textile Pattern Drawing

This course focuses on how to experiment with textile techniques of construction, embellishment and print so as to become aware of the possibilities of expression by means of the fabric. Main course topics and students works include: Understanding of the characteristics of the materials used; analysis of textile pattern and texture techniques within a chosen trend; development of a visually exciting collection of textile designs relevant to the chosen trend; creation of a stimulating impact exploring creative sense of style developed in various pattern making techniques.

Womenswear Collection Project
