Together for thesuccess!

Dear Prospective Sponsor,

Nearly three years have passed since the city of Győr won the rights to organize the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) in the summer of 2017. Hungary and particularly our city are in Olympic fever. Together with our colleagues we are eagerly waiting - with great expectations - for the organization of the first Hungarian Olympic event.

The EYOF is not only a sport event for the youth but the third most significant event of the Olympic movement, the forerunner of talent, culture and fair play. Several opportunities reside in its organization, even for the host country, for the host city and for the sponsors facilitating the realization of the event.

Recently, Hungary has issued its Letter of Intent to organize the Olympic Games of 2024, thus, another dream may come true for

Talent now, idol in the future!

Zsolt BorkaiPresident of the Hungarian Olympic Committee, Mayor of Győr

Yours sincerely,

Hungary. Although Hungary – on the basis of its results in the field of professional sport – is a successful nation, it has not presented results concerning organizing Olympic events so far, as it has not had the opportunity to win the rights for organization. Now, there is a bigger chance for that, than ever before. The decision about the organizers of the Olympic Games will be made in September 2017, thus the high quality organization of EYOF in Győr may contribute to the success of the Hungarian application.

The EYOF is a significant Olympic event for the whole continent; consequently its sponsorship has several benefits. Sport has undergone many changes in the recent years, and leading a healthy lifestyle is getting into the centre of attention in our century, in which doing exercises get a key role. Corporations devoted to sports strengthen their social responsibility and their prestige with the sponsorship.

As the president of the Hungarian Olympic Committee and the mayor of the city of Győr, I am a devoted supporter of sport and my main intention is to achieve that Győr could present Europe with a memorable sport event in 2017. The successful organization cannot be realized without partners, supporters, and corporations devoted to taking social responsibility. I hope, that this material can adequately visualize the significance of the EYOF, and related to the event a new era of building a ‘common future’ can be achieved by the benefits of the sponsorship.

I would like to ask for your support to facilitate the organization of this historic event, to realize the first Hungarian Olympic Games together, a grandiose meeting place for idols in the future! Be part of the European Youth Olympic Festival of Győr in 2017!

European Youth Olympic Festival2017 Győr

Jacques Rogge established the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) in 1990 in order to provide the opportunity for young competitors to get to know the notion, the universality and the organizational structure of the Olympic Games. One of the European cities organizes the most prestigious muster, the meeting for future champions in every odd year.

Hungary and the city of Győr successfully applied for the rights of the organization of the 2017 summer EYOF. Patrick Hickey and Zsolt Borkai signed the Host City Contract at a ceremony in Rome, in December 2012, at the General Assembly of the European Olympic Committee.

The EYOF is the ‘younger brother’ of the Olympic Games, possesses all the rights and ranks such as the Olympic Games organized in London in 2012 (five rings, flame, opening- and closing ceremony, Olympic village). The difference is that at the EYOF, the athletes are between the age of 14-18, coming from 50 European countries and compete with each other in 10 sports (athletics, judo, cycling, handball, basketball, volleyball, tennis, gymnastics, swimming, kayak and canoe).

The EYOF is an experience, a venue of cultural meetings, a starting point of relationships, an initial stage of careers and a chance for the

future adult champions to unfold. The first outstanding stage for several of our Olympic champions’ career was the EYOF; Katinka Hosszú and Zsuzsanna Jakabos could stand on the top of the podium in Paris in 2003, while Éva Risztov was a winner of the 1999 EYOF in Esbjerg. Their names are familiar to everyone today, and they have written their names in the history of swimming for ever. The talents of today will become the idols in the future, who will mean motivation and encouragement for the younger generations. Thus, the significance of the EYOF in youth training is undoubtable.

Converging rivers, intersecting roads, Hungarian hospitality, the impulse of youth and the excitement of a city deeply rooted in history: this is Győr, the City of Encounters! Győr is Hungary’s sixth largest city and home to nearly 130,000 people. Owing to its location, industry and highly skilled workforce, Győr is the country’s most dynamically developing and innovative city. In close proximity to the Pér airport, the international river port of Gönyű, the international railway and the M1 motorway, this area, known as the golden triangle (between Vienna, Budapest and Bratislava), has become one of the largest industrial and economic centres.

The most important factor in the promotion of the city’s development is its location on the bank of the Danube. Along the right bank of the river, important transport routes were established leading from the central part of the Carpathian Basin westwards. Already in Roman times this territory was important, as it was the link between Aquincum (Buda) and Vindobona (Vienna). It is for this reason that Győr ranks among Hungary’s most important cities with respect to ancient history, and it is one of the settlements which has had a leading role in the history of Hungary since its establishment. In Roman times, a civil town was also built near the castrum (castle), which defended the province. About 1000 years ago, at the time

of the birth of the Hungarian State, it became a bishopric and a prefectural centre. During the time of Turkish rule, it was a fortress that defended Vienna, and then in the 17th and 18th centuries, through the reconstruction of the inner medieval part, it became one of Hungary’s most beautiful baroque towns. At the end of the 19th century, it developed into an industrial centre, which is a role it still plays today. Today Győr’s appeal is not only its dynamic industrial development, but also its cultural life, outstanding sport events, thermal baths, sacred and secular monuments, attractive inner city streets and terraces, which are the mosaic that makes this European city complete and gives it its pulse.

Owing to the confluence of four rivers, Győr is the ‘City of Rivers’, whose waters lend a unique atmosphere to the city through their gentle embrace. The picturesque Moson- Danube, Rábca, Marcal and Rába - which once lent its name to the city - make a romantic walk irresistible. Even from a raft the ancient city walls, wonderful green spaces, old restaurants popping up under the shade of old trees or Radó Island, which is considered the island of lovers, can be admired. Meriting its ranking as Hungary’s third richest city in monuments, the Baroque inner city is ornamented by palaces that conjure up times past, characteristic corner balconies and statues.

Owing to the city’s lively and successful sports environment, Zsolt Borkai, who is at once the president of the Hungarian Olympic Committee, an Olympic champion in gymnastics, and the mayor of Győr, received the award ‘Sportiest City in Hungary’ on behalf of Győr in recognition of its work and success in sport policy. This recognition reflects the outstanding performance of the sport clubs and athletes of Győr and the city’s exemplary decision concerning the emphasised sport support. This is demonstrated by Győr’s allocation of 1% of its budget to sport support, which serves to stimulate children’s need for movement, to broaden sport opportunities and to promote the future’s sport role models. The city boasts first division teams in football, handball, basketball and futsal, which are all potentials for the podium every season in the national championships.

Besides being first place in the Champions League in 2013, the Győri ETO KC woman handball team also won the Hungarian National Championship and the Hungarian Cup, both the Raba ETO futsal team and Győr ETO FC football team won championships, while the Győr Uni SEAT woman basketball team came in second in the championship. In 2014-2015, also a lot of sporting success was achieved by the athletes of Győr and great international sports events were organized in the city. True to its name ‘City of Rivers’, the kayak-canoe department is among the

most successful at training Olympic athletes, and has produced athletes like the three-time Olympic champion kayaker Zoltán Kammerer, the Olympic champion kayaker Krisztina Fazekas-Zur and future hopeful Kincső Takács. The city places emphasis on organising international sport events, and in the last four years, nine European Championships / World Championships were hosted in the county capital of Kisalföld, where a range of events took place including handball, pentathlon, canoe-kayak, triathlon and water polo. Every year, a sport event for children is organised, called the Children’s Sport Festival. Children’s teams, composed of children aged nine to eleven with participation of team from abroad, take part in this three-day long event that is filled with exciting competitions and unforgettable moments.

11

Integration of Győr

The stable financial background of Győr contributes to the successful organization of the European Youth Olympic Festival, while the Government of Hungary and the Hungarian Olympic Committee also support the organization of EYOF 2017 in Hungary, precisely in Győr. The Hungarian government has declared sport as a strategic branch; the law amendments which came into force in 2012 also serve the building of the future of Hungarian sports, a more effective utilization of finances and the education of the future talents. The key figure of success is Zsolt Borkai, who is not only an Olympic champion in gymnastics but the mayor of the city of Győr and the president of the Hungarian Olympic Committee.

It is very important for Hungary to host an international sports event, and Győr is proved to be an excellent venue for the realization of it. The whole Hungarian society is waiting for listening to the Olympic hymn in Hungary for the first time in the history of the nation and for igniting the Olympic flame. The success of Győr is a national issue, which exceeds local interests, and has the support of the whole nation.

The Olympic idea has an outstanding role in Hungary. The Hungarian is a proud nation (ten million inhabitants), which as opposed to living on a small territory (93.000 km2), has managed to achieve outstanding results in the field of sports. From the already organized

twenty-seven modern Olympic Games, the Hungarian athletes took part in twenty-five games, and gained altogether 168 Olympic gold medals in the summer Olympic Games. Among these, 123 gold medals were achieved individually and 45 were team achievements. Altogether 295 Hungarian athletes have the privilege to be an Olympic champion. The most successful Hungarian sportsman is Aladár Gere vich, fencer, with seven – one individual and six team – gold medals. The most individual gold medals – five – have been won so far by the swimmer, Krisztina Egerszegi. The Hungarian youngsters in the European Youth Olympic Festival of 2015 in Tbilisi achieved the fourth place at the medal table, from among the 50 participating states, by exceeding much bigger countries. In the frames of the event, Győr took over the virtual baton, thus in 2017 (22-29 July 2017) our city will host the prestigious event.

The objective of Győr is to prove that Hungary is able to organize a memorable Olympic event for Europe by satisfying all the expectations.

12

Sponsoring opportunities

The European Youth Olympic Festival is, as an Olympic event, worthy for the highlighted attention of the international media and it is accompanied by great number of participants. 250 representatives of 151 media dealt with the event organized in 2015 in Tbilisi, and as a result, the communication of the event was continuous in the international media, altogether nearly 40 thousand tickets were sold for the versatile events, and the opening ceremony was followed by 14 thousand people on the spot. 217 medal ceremonies were also organized as part of the event.

The sponsorship of such a grandiose event basically differs from the other tools of marketing communication, as sponsorship gives the opportunity for the sponsors to communicate directly with the spectators. Besides serving a good cause, sports reflect positive images, and the sponsoring elements can easily be integrated into the marketing strategy of a company. For example, success, power, agility, victory and perseverance are such elements which can easily be associated with the European Youth Olympic Festival. The sponsor is able to communicate globally via the sponsorship of the event, as the geographical, cultural, linguistic and demographic obstacles fade away, so the message reaches its destination everywhere. The EYOF provides an excellent opportunity for distinction and separation,

that is why the message of the corporation or the brand can be presented and mediated.

The relationship between the sponsor and the sponsored is unique on the competitive market, where it is a natural expectation for both partners to achieve a win-win situation. In sports, the objective of the competitors is a successful participation and the acquisition of the brightest medal, the sponsor with its support contributes to realize the dreams of the talents of the future, while the provided financial aid multiply returns. The sponsor reaches such target groups whom he could hardly reach before or just with greater effort, and could achieve better reputation due to the highlighted popularization of the international sports event, as a result the consumers can get to know the organization better, and become open minded towards the sponsor.

To sum up, quid pro quo provided for sponsorship; by approaching it from the field of PR, it can contribute to strengthening the positive image and good reputation of the company.

Television and radio broadcast Before the event of the EYOF 2017, several magazine programmes will be launched on the channels of MTVA, which report on larger scale events (milestones) to prepare for the EYOF. There will be live broadcast, interviews, reports, and summaries daily about the sports events and the competitions. The major competitions and events will be presented by several national radio channels, television channels, newspapers and online portals.

The European Youth Olympic Festival is surrounded by highlighted media attention even at the preparatory phase, and the representatives of television and radio are constant participants of the determining milestones regarding the upcoming event. Constant reporting follows such measures which may contribute to the success of the EYOF 2017 in Győr.

Online surfaceThe official bilingual website of the event, www.gyor2017.hu contains useful pieces of information for the future participants and for those who are interested in the process of the application, the event, Győr as the host city, the realization of infrastructural developments, the Hungarian Olympic Committee, as the Hungarian herald of the Olympic Movement, and even the sponsors and supporters. The number of visitors has been gradually increasing, which will reach its peak by the time of the realization of the event in 2017. For boosting the popularity of the website and increasing the number of visitors, an interactive game has been launched (quiz for precious prizes) by the operators, in which sponsors have the opportunity to be promoted.

The EYOF 2017 Győr already has an own site on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Google+ community portals. Later, the representatives and the participants of the event will continuously use the surface to share their own images and experiences, therefore this opportunity is also provided for the sponsors. At different community pages, the visitors of the event take up bigger and bigger number, and these surfaces have great significance today as internet has a huge dominance, especially if we take into consideration that youngsters exclusively use community portals for obtaining information.

19

Sports news and printed pressAs regards the organization of the European Youth Olympic Festival 2017 in Győr, visual reports frequently appear on the important events on different online news portals, online surfaces of journals, on thematic sites and in printed press. The event has not started yet, but the news reports are constant, as Győr has appeared several times online or in printed press since the application period regarding to the events, which were about winning the rights to organize the event, the significant subsidy of the government, the highlighted participation of national sport associations, the appearance of the mascot figure or the launch of the website of the event. In these reports, it is provided for the sponsors to be promoted (e.g. celebration for signing the agreement of a grandiose cooperation). Tbilisi appeared in the printed press 800 times during the one-week long event.

20

Association of famous people What can prove the significance and the high quality of the European Youth Olympic Festival 2017 Győr better than the credibility of the people representing it (1 person per sporting discipline). Currently, the event is represented by Zsuzsanna Jakabos, who is the official face of the event regarding the swimming branch. The representing persons of the event participate in varied events related to the EYOF by urging youngsters to compete fairly and popularizing the EYOF, besides actively taking part in professional sport in Hungary by enhancing the fame of Hungary with their results. Zsuzsanna Jakabos was also a participant of the European Youth Olympic Festival in 2003 in Paris as a champion, therefore she is really aware of the significance and the effects of such an event in the future sports career of youngsters. The nomination of ‘sports ambassadors’ for the 10 sports is in progress, who will be exemplary personalities, sport is an essential part of their life; this notion can be credibly represented by the sponsor and strengthen its mission much better by supporting the event.

Other advertising spacesThere is a greater demand for merchandising activities among the sports fans. Different products help the fans to get closer to the event, and this way the participants of the EYOF serve as mediators, so the

Hugoo

20

21

presentation of the sponsor is provided in a greater scale. Via the products, the sponsor can reach the consumers in a unique way. The scope of products are being elaborated at the moment, it will be developed by the start of the event, but the mascot figure of the EYOF 2017 Győr, Hugoo, is available, in different forms; later scarves, mugs, T-shirts similar to the volunteers’ T-shirts, etc. will also be accessible, on which the sponsor gets advertising space according to the sponsorship categories. The sales venues of the products will be the venues of the competitions, and the Visitors’ Centre in the city centre of Győr, and the website of the event will also be developed with new functions in the future.

Beyond merchandising tools, the life-like mascot figure, which can either be dressed up, has been continuously presented since 2013 in all the significant events of Győr, and banners are displayed on the surfaces of the venues of sports events and cultural events of Győr, which popularize the event and provide the opportunity for the sponsor to be promoted at a bigger scale.

Promotion at the Olympic VillageThe participants of the EYOF should be accommodated similarly to the participants of the Olympic Games, in Olympic village(s). These huge areas provide unlimited opportunity for advertising, taking into

consideration the dining area, the entrance gates or the community places.

Advertising at other scenes, surfaces related to the competition Promotion is provided at the territory of the city of Győr, via huge banners at the airport receiving the participants, on placards and on all exterior advertising surfaces popularizing the EYOF, on VIP receptions, in daily newspapers and newsletters reporting about the news, and probably on the official T-shirt of the event.

22

Indirect return ofsponsorship

Sponsors’ meetingThe meetings for sponsors can provide excellent opportunity for building relations with other people and group of corporations supporting the event.

As the number of sponsors is growing, meetings are organized for them to meet once or twice annually, and at such significant events of EYOF 2017 Győr, they are able to build long-term partnership with one another.

Public statements of our supportersZsolt Borkai (Mayor of Győr, President of the Hungarian Olympic Committee): ‘The city of Győr rightfully possesses the honourable title: ‘citadel of sports’. Our Sports Clubs have gained recognition for our city even at international level, which is crucial regarding marketing as well, while the athletes can be presented for children as role models. I do believe that we must not give up supporting sports.’

Zsuzsanna Jakabos (Olympian, face of the EYOF): ‘I can only congratulate to the city of Győr for winning the rights of organizing this sports event; I dare to state that it gave us the opportunity in 2017 to realize the dream of athletes to compete at home. Winning an Olympic competition is an inexpressible feeling, and achieving it was impossible so far in domestic surroundings. I will keep my fingers crossed for the youngsters to be able to realize their dreams.’

The financial collateral is provided mutually by the three partners, and as the members of the Organizing Committee take the responsibility and guarantee to cover the expenses, for which the commitment of corporations, which are in the forefront of taking social responsibility is vital.

The Government of Hungary takes the guarantee of nearly 15 billion Hungarian Forints for the improvement of sports infrastructure, and provides 1 billion from this sum to contribute to the costs of organization. The implementation of the Olympic village and the rest of the expenses of organization are covered by the host city.
