One page pitch – ‘What can’t speak can’t lie’ The story synopsis Our story is about a 16 year old girl who finds out that her granddad, who she idolises, was lying about his brave war hero story. He is made out to be a witness or possible helper to people who had kidnapped, tortured and murdered innocent people, in Northern Island in the 1970’s. She finds various documents and an old anonymous letter addressed to him wanting revenge, suggesting the writer may have got his revenge and granddad didn’t die in a war. The film shows various flashbacks of his life as the girl goes on a journey to find the truth about her family’s past. Statement of intent We thought the story would be different and unique to other independent thriller films, because it is a mystery thriller rather than a horror thriller. It is a more domesticated thriller so both me and the audience will be able to relate to it. It focuses on the truth and lies of family relationship which is relatable and emotional for the viewers. Visual realisation When the film is in real time it will be colourful and when it flashes back in time it will be black a white with lots of quick cuts and flash cuts representing the war ground. Audience appeal The main character is a 16 year old girl so it will relate to the youngest of our target audience. The war connotations will also appeal to the older viewers. And teenagers/young adults may also like the action a violence. 21 st Century Productions

The story synopsis

Our story is about a 16 year old girl who finds out that her granddad, who she idolises, was lying about his brave war hero story.

Statement of intent

We thought the story would be different and unique to other independent thriller films, because it is a mystery thriller rather than a horror thriller. It is a more domesticated thriller so both me and the audience will be able to relate to it. It focuses on the truth and lies of family relationship which is relatable and emotional for the viewers.

Visual realisation

When the film is in real time it will be colourful and when it flashes back in time it will be black a white with lots of quick cuts and flash cuts representing the war ground.

Audience appeal

The main character is a 16 year old girl so it will relate to the youngest of our target audience. The war connotations will also appeal to the older viewers. And teenagers/young adults may also like the action a violence.

Audience type/age

We chose the age range of 15-40, we chose this age range because there will be a lot of violence and gore. Even though this limits the ages able to watch it at a cinema I don’t think it would appeal to younger viewers because they might find it confusing which will cause them to become bored.

Type of thriller

Our film is a mix of a crime drama and an action and war thriller. This will make a wider target audience of both people who like crime dramas and people who like actions and thrillers. We chose this type because it is very popular at the moment with films like ‘Black Mass’, ‘Bridge Of Spies’ and ‘Spectre’.
