1 About Aflac

Founded more than 59 years ago, by brothers John, Paul, and Bill Amos, Aflac is a world leader in voluntary insurance policies that pay cash benefits directly to policyholders, unless otherwise assigned. In 1958, Aflac introduced one of the world’s first cancer plans. Aflac initially operated in Georgia and Alabama, but by the mid-1960s had expanded across much of the Southeast. Throughout the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, Aflac continued its domestic expansion and now operates in all 50 states and in U.S. territories. Today, Aflac is a world leader in guaranteed-renewable insurance policies sold at the worksite in the United States. Aflac’s more than 74,800 licensed independent agents sell our plans through more than 465,000 U.S. payroll accounts. Aflac began broadening its U.S. plan line in the 1980s, after primarily selling one plan for more than 20 years. In addition to Aflac’s flagship income protection insurance, the company now offers a variety of insurance policies to help with insurance needs. Today, Aflac policies include insurance policies for cancer, accident, short-term disability, hospital confinement indemnity, life, critical illness, dental, and vision. Aflac Incorporated has been listed on the New York Stock Exchange since 1974 under the ticker symbol AFL. The company is also listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

3. Aflac Processes Claims Quickly Paying claims fast is important because we want to be there for our customer when and how they need us. Currently, we pay claims the fastest in the business—in 3.7 days. However if our policyholders need their money quicker and they use an electronic submission, the claim gets paid in one day. Here’s how our numbers stack up. For individual claims, we pay: 6,100,000 claims a year 484,120 claims a month 121,030 claims a week 24,206 claims a day 3,227 claims an hour 54 claims per minute 1 claim per second

4. Rate Stability

We know that rate stability is important. Most of our individual insurance policies have never been increased by one premium dollar. Since 1990, over 99 percent of Aflac's individual premiums have gone without any rate changes.

As you can see, from customer service to claims, we’ve got you covered. By providing prompt and efficient service, Aflac makes administering and managing your employee benefits easier than ever.

We hope to build a strong and long lasting relationship with you, and look forward to you joining the Aflac family.

3 Financial Strength

You can rest assured that Aflac’s financial ability to back our policyholders is stronger than ever. Aflac’s assets exceed $121.3 billion, with annual revenues at almost $24 billion.

Strong and stable Our financial ratings affirm our ability to support your employees for the long haul. Here are our most recent ratings:

A.M. Best A+ (Superior) Standard & Poor’s AA- in insurer financial strength Moody’s Aa3 (Excellent) in insurer financial strength R&I AA- for insurer financial strength

Our investment philosophy Aflac has always believed that a conservative investment approach helps

ensure that it is well-positioned to fulfill its promises to claimants, policyholders, employees, sales agents, and shareholders

Approximately 95.3 percent of Aflac’s fixed-income securities are investment grade

4 | Aflac Advantages

Employer Advantages

Ease Of AdministrationAflac designs its individual plans to be easy for employers to implement, and we work with them to create the right benefits package that fits their specific needs. We also manage enrollments and assist with their employees’ claims—processing most of them within four days.

Complements Your Existing Benefits Package With a wide range of insurance policies, your employees can choose the areas where they want additional coverage. Aflac benefits do not change or replace any of your current employee benefits; they complement them.

No Direct Cost Aflac policies are voluntary and are 100 percent employee-paid. Many companies have found Aflac is a cost-effective solution to help employees with rising out-of-pocket health care expenses. When they’ve had to cut back on benefits or raise deductibles to manage major-medical costs, they’ve relied on Aflac to help their employees pay for those expenses.

Employee Advantages

ClaimsAflac offers several convenient ways to obtain claim forms — online, by phone or through an agent — and we usually process claims for our individual plans within four days of submission. That lets your employees focus more on their work and less on how they’re going to make ends meet.

Freedom of ChoiceEmployees can choose the services and policies that help meet their financial and personal needs, with minimal participation required from your Human Resources department.

Service After the SaleFrom our local service offices, to our Customer Service Center, to our online services for policyholders and accounts, we provide numerous convenient options for customers to maintain their policies and keep up with the status of their claims. We work directly with policyholders, so your benefits administrators aren’t burdened with the responsibility of following up on claims or seeking information.

5 | By The Numbers

We have decades of experience working with the government sector, and we regularly conduct extensive research to back up what we’ve learned. Currently we provide service for more than 15,000 government-sector accounts in the U.S.

Aflac, as an insurance company, is primarily regulated by state law, and many states have laws that regulate how insurers may treat customers’ information. We have provided a glimpse at some of our large accounts1:

Albany County District of Columbia City of Atlanta Los Angeles County City of Charleston Nassau County City of Dallas State of Georgia City of Las Vegas State of Washington City of Los Angeles Suffolk County

Aflac is a nationally-recognized company, and we support large, nationally recognized accounts* such as Michelin, Krispy Kreme, Harley Davidson, JC Penney, CVS, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, The Weather Channel, and Staples. No matter the account size, your employees can trust Aflac to provide them with their policy benefits in their time of need.

1This shall in no way imply that these accounts endorse Aflac or its policies.

6 | Healthcare Reform

In light of the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling regarding the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act — commonly known as health care reform — many Americans are taking a closer look at their major medical insurance policies and related coverage.

It is important to remember that health care reform is intended to ensure that Americans of all ages and incomes are protected by creditable, comprehensive major medical health insurance. Aflac policies are not major medical insurance. Our policies help our policyholders cope with daily living expenses and out-of-pocket costs associated with accidents or illnesses — costs major medical insurance was never intended to cover.

Our policies pay in addition to major medical insurance. And because cash is always welcome in the event of sickness or injury, we know the protection Aflac offers will continue to be in demand.

With Aflac, our policyholders can concentrate on what’s really important — getting well.As the implementation of health reform continues, Aflac will continue as a beacon of hope for Americans who are counting on us to be here when they need us most.

8 | Plan Overviews

Features

• Wellness Benefits Aflac understands that employees are more productive when they are feeling healthy and well; that’s why some of our plans contain a Wellness Benefit. With this benefit, we support the prevention of illnesses and diseases through early detection exams for your employees, and their families (if applicable).

• Guaranteed-Renewable and Portable Our individual plans are guaranteed-renewable and portable, putting employees in control of their own coverage. If your employees transfer to another job or retire, they can keep their Aflac coverage, at the same payroll rate, as long as one month of premium has been remitted to Aflac through payroll deduction.

• No Coordination of Benefits Aflac does not coordinate benefits. We pay benefits in addition to any other insurance the policyholder may have.

• Claims Paid Directly to Policyholders When an employee is out of work due to an illness or accident, two things are increasingly hard to come by — peace of mind and cash. Aflac’s voluntary insurance policies help provide both by paying cash benefits directly to the policyholder (unless otherwise assigned).

Our Insurance Coverage is Designed to …

Help With Serious Health Events

Cancer Coverage In the United States, men have slightly less than a one in two lifetime risk of developing cancer; for women, the risk is a little more than one in three (CancerFacts and Figures 2012, American Cancer Society).

Fortunately, Aflac is a pioneer in the cancer insurance industry. We sold our first cancer insurance policy in 1958 and have since paid billions in claims. Our policies have helped thousands of individuals pay expenses that aren’t covered by major medical insurance—including out-of-pocket medical expenses, travel and lodging for out-of-town treatment, and everyday living expenses.

Our Insurance Coverage is Designed to …

Help With Medical Expenses

Hospital Confinement Indemnity In the event of illness or injury, even employees with strong company-provided major medical insurance will probably face expenses that aren’t covered. A hospital confinement indemnity insurance policy provides cash benefits employees may use as they see fit; a hospital intensive care insurance policy provides benefits for accidents or illnesses that result in confinement in an intensive-care unit; and a hospital confinement sickness indemnity insurance policy helps ease the financial burden of hospital stays due to illness. Benefits are predetermined and paid regardless of any other insurance in force. Policyholders can use the benefits to help with out-of-pocket expenses that are not covered by major medical insurance.
