NACME Scholars (Block Grant) Program

Through the NACME Scholars Program, NACME provides block grants to colleges and universities that, in turn, award the money to talented African American, American Indian, and Latino students enrolled in engineering programs as part of their financial aid packages.

The NACME’s Scholars (Block Grant) Program provides minority college scholarship support in the form of a lump sum grant to partner institutions who enroll students from three sources – first year students identified by NACME or the partner universities, transfer students from two-year colleges, and currently enrolled students who have completed at least one year of engineering study.

Student eligibility:

To be eligible for the NACME Scholars Program students must enroll in an engineering program

Academic performance criteria for NACME support differs somewhat for each student stream.

● Currently enrolled students must have completed a calculus, physics, or chemistry course, earning at least a “B,” and be accepted into engineering.

● Two-year community college transfers, i.e., those accepted for their third year of engineering study, must enter with at least a 2.7 cumulative GPA on a scale of a 4.0 and an Associate Degree in engineering science (or the equivalent program of study).

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program is the United States' largest youth recognition program based exclusively on volunteer community service. The program was created in 1995 by Prudential in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) to honor middle level and high school students for outstanding service to others at the local, state, and national level.

The program's goals are to applaud young people who already are making a positive difference in their towns and neighborhoods, and to inspire others to think about how they might contribute to their communities. Over the past 19 years, more than 370,000 young Americans have participated in the program, and more than 100,000 of them have been officially recognized for their volunteer efforts.

How does the program work?In the United States, each program year begins in September, when information and application instructions are mailed to all middle level and high schools in the 50 United States and Washington, D.C., and to the following officially designated local organizations:

● Girl Scout councils● County 4-H organizations● American Red Cross chapters● YMCAs● Affiliates of HandsOn Network

Through these schools and local organizations, students are encouraged to complete an online application by November 8.

Local Honorees are selected at participating schools and organizations in November. From these winners, an independent judging organization names the top middle level and high school volunteer in each state and Washington, D.C. Results are announced in early February. Then, 10 National Honorees are chosen by a panel of prominent public figures, and announced at a special ceremony in Washington, D.C., in May.

Who is eligible?Any young person who:

● Complete the application and the student/parent agreement. Deadline: November 8, 2016. ● Go to the “Certification” page to email or print out instructions for your certifier. You

must deliver these instructions to your certifier by November 8, 2016. Your certifier can be your school principal or the head of a county 4-H organization, Girl Scout council, American Red Cross chapter, YMCA or HandsOn Network affiliate.

● Your certifier has until November 18, 2016, to review applications online and select Local Honoree(s) from the applicants in your school or organization, and nominate them for state-level judging.

Air Force Academy Scholarships

Junior Year

Junior year is when the application process to the Academy truly begins. Students will start by filling out the Pre-Candidate Questionnaire, which becomes available online March 1 every year.

Between March 1 of their junior year and December 31 of their senior year, students must submit a completed Pre-Candidate Questionnaire. If they are ready to begin their application, they can visit the Pre-Candidate Questionnaire online.

Between March 1 of their junior year and December 31 of their senior year, they must also request nominations from their state’s congressional representative(s) or other designated nominator.

If they are interested in seeing what life at the Academy is really like, they should consider applying to participate in our Summer Seminar program, designed for high school juniors during the summer before their senior year. This program is highly competitive and there are limited number of spaces available.

NOTE: As with any top university, competition for admission to the Academy is extremely high. In addition to applying to the Academy, their college application strategy should include a backup plan.

We recommend that they apply to a select number of colleges in addition to the Academy. To pursue an interest in the Air Force, they may also wish to request and submit an applications for Air Force ROTC.

______________________________________________________________________________Unidad Latina 2017 Scholarship

The scholarship fund is seeking to award college-bound high school seniors who are NY State residents, graduating this spring, and matriculating to four-year colleges. Scholarship sponsors have asked CUNY, and College Now, to spread the word about the scholarship in specific congressional districts throughout the city. Scholarship recipients will receive a one-year scholarship of $2,500. The two target recruitment areas in NYC encompass Senate Districts 22 and 23 which cover parts of south-eastern Brooklyn and north-western Staten Island. It’s preferable that students reside in these districts, but it’s not required. For reference, these are the high schools from these areas understanding that NYC students travel widely and do not always attend school in their neighborhoods. In Staten Island:· Curtis High School· Michael J. Petrides High School· Ralph McKee Vocational High School· Port Richmond High School· Concord High School· New Dorp High School· Staten Island Technical High School In Brooklyn:· Urban Assembly School for Criminal Justice· Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School· Fort Hamilton High School· Brooklyn Studio Secondary School· Lafayette High School· New Utrecht High School· High School of Sports Management· International High School at Lafayette· Life Academy High School for Film and Music· Expeditionary Learning School
