Members o the Friends o theiishpay annual dues o one or ve hundred euros or joinwith a lietime donation o one thousand ve hundred euros or more. In return, membersare invited to semi-annual sessions eaturing presentations oiishacquisitions and by guestspeakers. Tese guest speakers deliver lectures on their eld o research, which does not neces-sarily concern theiishcollection. Te presentation and lecture are ollowed by a reception.

In addition to these semi-annual gatherings, all Friends receive a orty-percent discounton iishpublications. Friends paying dues o ve hundred euros or more are also entitled tochoose Institute publications rom a broad selection ofered at no charge. Te board consultsthe Friends about allocation o the revenues rom the dues and delivers an annual nancialreport in conjunction with theiishadministration. Teiishwas ounded by master collectorNicolaas Posthumus (1880-1960) in the 1930s. For the past two decades, two o the institutesestablished by this history entrepreneur have operated rom the same premises: theneha

(Netherlands Economic History Archive) since 1914 and the International Institute o SocialHistory (iish), which is now 74 years old. Both institutes continue to collect, although the
