The
Time
Something To Think About Randy Gilchrist, Executive Director
I am always amazed at the working of
God in the lives of people. Recently I had
the privilege to have lunch with Jeremy
Clements, the former Youth Pastor at
Second in Baytown. The reason we met
was for me to hear how God has been
dealing with him and his wife Kristen. On July 20, 2015,
they will be relocating to Richmond, Virginia to begin orien-
tation at the International Mission Board in preparation to
serve as Missionaries to East Asia.
In our discussion Jeremy stated that he and Kristen are so
excited to have the opportunity to be God’s witness in the
international community. They also want to take the Ameri-
can church family with them by being a contact point for
churches to come alongside in prayer and person to share the
gospel.
When asked their needs, Jeremy stated that because of the
Cooperative Program they do not need any additional fund-
ing. What they do need is churches of San Jacinto Baptist
Association to partner with them in prayer as they go and
while they are there.
It is my desire that we, as an Association, commit to being
prayer partners with Jeremy and Kirsten and to pray daily
that God would use them boldly to be Jesus to the World. It
is also my desire that our church leaders consider the possi-
bilities of taking a group from their church to go to East Asia
and work as short term missionaries with Jeremy and Kris-
ten.
Jesus told His disciples in John 20:21, “As the Father has
sent me, even so I am sending you." Every person who has
accepted Jesus is his disciple. We have the opportunity to
demonstrate to the world the love that Christ has placed
within our heart toward every person God has created and to
share what Christ can do for them, just as He has for us.
Groundbreaking Ceremony and 65th anniversary at South
Avenue Baptist Church, Pasadena.
For the Common Good Carey. D. Froelich, Associate Director
for Church Enrichment
Let the peace of Christ rule in your
hearts, since as members of one body
you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of
Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one
another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and
spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. 17 And
whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the
name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father
through him. (Colossians 3:15, NIV)
I recently attended a wedding between two wonderful Chris-
tian young people. The service was a testimony to Christ
from beginning to end, and it was built around the passage
above. It was a beautiful expression of all of the good that
still exists in our world, in spite of recent satanic attacks up-
on the Church, Holy Scripture, and what we often call,
“family values.” Interestingly enough, the bride and groom
came to faith in Christ from radically different places. One
grew up in a Christian home, where the Bible and Christ
were the foundation of everything Mom and Dad did to bring
up their child. The other had much less involvement with the
church or Christian values, but as a young adult accepted an
invitation of a friend to attend a local church and ultimately
came to profess Christ as personal Savior. Together they
pledged to Christ and to us that the home they are forming
will be willfully, purposefully, and intentionally Christian.
What a joyous event it was!
What strikes me about that wonderful celebration is this: the
Church really is still in the business of leading people to
Christ, and the Holy Spirit still works through Christ’s Bride
to transform lives from self-centered, God-forsaking empti-
ness to genuine Christian discipleship. Because of all of the
garbage that surrounds us daily, in spite of the Supreme
Court decisions that attack the family, without regard for
which politician or what business seems to “hold the upper
hand” in the world we live in, the Church of Jesus Christ has
a mission that produces unbelievably joyous results when we
are faithful to be about that work.
The Apostle said it simply enough: Let the peace of Christ
rule in your hearts…. And whatever you do … do it all in the
name of the Lord Jesus…. His word—like the beautiful
Christian wedding—is a wonderful reminder that God’s plan
for humanity has been entrusted to us. Which neighbor of
yours has “no time for God or religion” might be like that
young person whose life was wonderfully transformed?
What is it about your church that truly encourages others to
discover the peace of Christ?
I am thankful today because I have seen—I continue to see—
that people are being blessed because the Church remains
faithful to its call.
Lake Tomahawk News Pat Flowers, Lake Tomahawk Camp
Director
Summer camp is going GREAT! Camp-
ers from all over Texas are piling in at
Lake Tomahawk to learn about our Lord
and Savior. It is always neat to see the
kids come through the gates and antici-
pate that they will be making a life changing decision before
they leave.
We have an extra-long camping season this year. We are
hosting week long camps through the middle of August and
of course every weekend in August. We are very thankful to
have a full summer and filling our beds with kids that need to
ministered too.
We have a great summer staff this year. Please help us cover
them in prayer as they work long hot days this summer giv-
ing of themselves to this ministry. We could not do this
without them.

08, 2015. Our SJBA 55+ is
