I hope you have enjoyed the holidays and break from the world’s ongoing pressures, and entered 2017 with much optimism and many healthy plants. Your Society is ready for a full calendar of interesting and productive meetings and other activities. To begin, we will have talk by Jeff Moore all about his new book—which he previewed for us in May of 2016—and photos of his subjects. We have more programs “in the works” for the coming year, but none are quite ready yet for announcement. There are still some open slots, and as always, your ideas are welcome. The Big News of course is that we have a new meeting location for our January meeting at least (see p. 4). If the Live Oak Grange works for most members, we could meet there in the future, as well. Your opinion is important. Finally, on behalf of all members to I thank the board members and other volunteers who work when needed throughout the year to ensue the success of the Society’s meetings and other activities. Whenever the need arises for a task to be done, our members step up and meet the need effectively and with positive attitudes. That readiness makes the difference between a struggle to “get stuff done” and a smoothly operating organization. Thanks! We can always use new ideas and new energies, so think of what the Society could do for you and what you could do for the Society.
