Ken Tucker is the focus of this month's Passion for Compassion. A teacher for 16 years, a school librarian and media coordinator for another 31 years, he

In October's new episode of Tasteful Driftless, Dr. Dave Chakoian makes a traditional Armenian dish called Boreag. As he goes through the process of making this fried stuffed dough, he discusses his family history and the community effort that is a key part of making this tantalizing food.

This month’s Right In Our Backyard, features Ruth and David Amundson from the “History Alive Project”, in Westby. The History Alive Project creates out-of-the- box projects to discover and

Fun at the Fair

It was a hot weekend and not your typical cold, “Fair” weather, but it was another fun filled year at the Vernon County Fair. As always, there was a lot of food, entertainment, animals and excitement. VC Co-op displayed some of our products in the Cooperative building.

Spectators enjoyed watching the Packer-Viking game at the VC Co-op booth.

VC Co-op’s Plinko game was a hit for young and old, and our chicken and pig hats were popular among the kiddos.

When you see a green lock with the word “Secure” to the left of a URL, it makes you feel like the site you are visiting is safe. This is not necessarily true. The green lock means the site has been issued a certificate and a pair of

cryptographic keys that have been generated for it. Such sites encrypt information tramsmitted between you and the site. Encrypting transmitted data is a good thing. It means that information exchanged between your browser and the site is not accessible to third parties. The problem is that the green lock and the issued certificate say nothing about the site itself. A phishing page can easily get a certificate and encrypt traffic that flows between you and it. The password can be stolen by the site itself if it’s fake. Here are some safeguarding tips:

• Never enter logins, passwords, banking credentials or other personal information on the site unless you are sure of authenticity.

• Check the domain name very carefully; the name of the fake site, may differ by only one character.

• Beware of what the site is offering. If it looks suspicious ask yourself if you really need to register on it.

• Make sure your device is well protected with antivirus protection or internet security.
