Students and their families, deans and professors visited the Maracanã Stadium remodeling work, currently being undertaken by Odebrecht Infraestrutura

WINNERS VISIT MARACANÃ CONSTRUCTION WORK

The deans, professors and students – together with their family members – from

the five universities that won the Odebrecht Award for Sustainable Development

visited the construction work for the Maracanã Stadium on the morning of March

13. In all, 35 people were at the construction site to see the site of the 2014 final

World Cup match.

The visit began with the presentation of a video on the sustainability projects

undertaken at the project. After that, everyone headed to the construction site

and had the chance to step on the same soil as that on which famous soccer

players like Pelé, Garrincha, Zico and Dinamite made history. In addition to

the area where grass is located, the visitors could also visit the base of the

grandstands and view the work of the contract Members like “fans.”

Park One Achieves Yet Another Stage of Certification under Aqua

The first Odebrecht Realizações Imobiliárias

(OR) sustainable residential building, the Park

One Ibirapuera - currently being built in the

city of São Paulo - received the certification

for the second stage of the Aqua Process,

called “Conception,” after an audit conducted

on February 15 and 16. This is the phase that

confirms all of the project’s sustainable initiatives

and how they will be undertaken.

In September 2011, the development had

already been certified for the first stage, called

“Program,” which attests to the product’s design.

The next stage, “Implementation,” will occur

upon the delivery of the development, a moment

at which all of the definitions indicated in the

project are effectively put into practice.

INNOVATION VERSUS SUSTAINABILITY

Working in partnership with Inovatech –

a consulting firm specialized in innovative

sustainable solutions for civil construction

– Park One meets the 14 Aqua certification

criteria, which range from the building’s

relationship with its surroundings during the

construction process to efficient water and

energy management and even the acoustic

and olfactory comfort of residents.

One of the highlights is the use of acoustic

PVC frames and an acoustic high performance

sub-floor, minimizing the surrounding noises.

With the sphere of efficient water use, the

ground floor of the development will be

equipped with components designed to save

the resource, together with a grey water reuse

system. Accordingly, a small treatment plant is

planned at the site.

Reducing the generation of solid waste

is also a concern at the development. Of

the debris resulting from the demolition of

the homes that stood before at the site, the

recyclable waste was directed for reuse and

the inert material was shredded on site and

used on the terrain as the construction base.

Another measure designed to reduce solid

waste is found in the basement slabs, which

will be built with reusable plastic molds

instead of the traditional wood ones.

Within a more ample scope, the use of a

modulated masonry system, which allows

for improved planning, will reduce the need

for materials, thereby generating less waste.

Currently, the Park One team has already

completed the retaining wall with metal

profiles and will begin the project digging

phase.

OR’s Park One Ibirapuera received the certificate for the second stage of the Aqua Process, attesting to its environmental quality

For the Women of the Organization

On March 8, 1857, female workers from

a textile factory located in New York City

held a major strike, occupying the site

and claiming improved work conditions

and higher salaries. The protest was

repressed violently and the factory was

set on fire, resulting in the death of 130

women.

Odebrecht Energia

makes its debut in the solar

sector with the installation

of a plant at the Pernambuco

Arena, one of the stadiums

to host the 2014 World Cup

currently being constructed

by Odebrecht Infraestrutura

in São Lourenço da Mata,

Metropolitan Region of

Recife. The installation

should be ready by the

second half of this year

and is expected to begin

operating in June 2013.

This initiative is part

of the Strategic Research

and Development Project -

“Technical and Commercial

Arrangements for Inserting

Solar Photovoltaic

Generation into the Brazilian

Energy Matrix,” launched in

August of last year by the

National Electric Energy

Agency (ANEEL), which will

be undertaken by Odebrecht

Energia and concessionaires

from the Neoenergia Group,

Celpe, Coelba and Cosern,

with a total investment of R$

24.5 million.

Odebrecht Energia Begins Operating in Solar Energy Sector

The solar plant will receive

investments of R$ 13 million

and will generate 1 MWp of

installed power, equivalent

to the average consumption

of 6,000 inhabitants. Its

technology will use solar

photovoltaic energy, which

requires solar panels to convert

sunlight into electric energy.

For Fernando Chein,

Generation Director at

Odebrecht Energia, the

project is contributing toward

solar energy development

in Brazil. “This source has

major potential for aligning

sustainability in the Brazilian

energy matrix,” said Chein.

The use of solar energy

offers environmental benefits

since it is a renewable and

non-polluting resource with

a low maintenance cost. The

source is abundant in nearly

the entire national territory

and allows for distributed

generation, reducing global

costs and generating credits

in the carbon market,” said

Chein.

The arenas that have already

adopted the system include

Qwest Field in Seattle, AT&T

Park in San Francisco, both in

the United States, and Easy

Credit Stadium, in Nuremberg,

Germany.

Illustration shows how the Arena Pernambuco will. The solar energy system reduces the losses related to transmission and distribution, since the energy is consumed at the site at which it is produced

During the month of March, 300 tons of fish

of 87 different species that were found in the

cofferdam of the Santo Antônio Hydroelectric

Power Plant – currently being built by

Odebrecht Energia in Rondônia – were returned

to the Madeira River bed. Turtles and pink river

dolphins were also returned to their natural

habitat.

The operation that rescued over 2 million

animals took place for a six-month period,

from September 2011 to February of this year,

and involved the participation of over 100

professionals, including biologists, engineers,

fishermen, hydraulic, electrical and environmental

technicians, in addition to the specialized team

from the consulting firm Bios Consultoria.

After the recovery, the animals were measured,

weighed, placed in a truck with the constant

oxygenation of the water and taken to a

previously selected area called the “release area,”

located either upstream or downstream from the

river, depending on the species.

According to Renê Hojo, a biologist from Bios

Consultoria, during the process there was a loss of

0.27%, a percentage considered low considering

the dimensions of the development. “The

professionals involved had never worked in such

an ample area, with nearly 47 hectares and 5.7

million m3 of water and a major biomass of fish,”

said Hojo.
