Dmytro Morykit’s Metropolis LIVE: Electrifying concert alongside Fritz Lang’s Metropolis In 2014, the British composer/pianist, Dmytro Morykit, premiered his score for the two hour version of Fritz Lang’s Metropolis at his local Strathearn Artspace and then Wilton's Music Hall in London. The event proved to be a truly inspirational evening of film and sound and the sell-out audiences gave standing ovations. In London, twitter and social media were filled with praise. ‘Inspired score, Amazing! Rather Fantastic, Perfection.’ A short introduction before the film explained how Morykit, having always loved this iconic film, put the score together unaware he’d probably been writing it for years. ‘It got me in touch with a lot of music that I’ve written over the past 30 years,’ he said. Working on this new score for Metropolis has been like an ‘accidental marriage’. Morykit modified 27 previous compositions and wrote two new pieces especially for the film. The live accompaniment is an important and dramatic part of the event as Morykit gives an electrifying performance which can be listened to as a concert in its own right as well as complementing the film. Morykit has now toured across the UK, the Baltic States and Canada including returns to many venues. He performed at the Green Man Festival in Wales where the show was sold out and had a fabulous response, (Absolutely extraordinary, Bloody Marvellous! Your performance was my personal highlight of the festival). Metropolis is a 1927 German silent expressionist film regarded as a pioneering work of science fiction. As the first feature-length movie of the genre, set in a futuristic urban dystopia, it is among the most iconic and influential films of all time. Many young people are thrilled to discover Metropolis for the first time through Morykit’s music, which is downloaded across the world.

“Morykit’s understanding of Metropolis allows for some extraordinary moments of synthesis, where character’s motivations are clarified or complicated by his mercurial piano.” The Saint

'Many people have done versions of this including Adam Ant and Freddy Mercury and this relatively modest musician has written a beautiful work that sits comfortably amongst gods.' Second Teir
