ortland ceent is readily available in ost urbanareas! and usually available in sei-urban areas! as it
is one of the ajor coponents for any buildin&

there are three types of soil-and-ceent i%tures as follo"s41. P'a+% +#%'-e!e" is a hardened i%ture of soil and ceent that contains!
at the tie of placin&! enou&h "ater to produce a consistency siilar to
plasterin& ortar# It is used to line or pave ditches! slopes! and other areasthat are subject to erosion#
. Ce!e"-!#,%$%e, +#%' is an unhardened or sei hardened i%ture ofsoil and ceent# When relatively sall *uantities of ortland ceent are
added to &ranular soil or silt-clay soil the cheical and physical propertiesof that soil are chan&ed# $eent reduces the plasticity and "ater-holdin&
capacity of the soil and increases its bearin& value#In ceent-odifiedsoil! only enou&h ceent is used to chan&e the physical properties of thesoil to the de&ree desired#

3.C#!pae, +#%'-e!e"! often referred to as siply soil-ceent! is a i%tureof pulveri,ed soil and calculated aounts of portland ceent and "ater that is
copacted to a hi&h density# )he result is a ri&id slab
havin& oderate copressive stren&th and resistance to the disinte&ratin& effects
of"ettin& and dryin& and free,in& and tha"in&.In order to achieve a successful bond the ceent particles need to coat ost of
the aterial particles so that upon hydration a crystalline structure is created
throu&hout the i%ture of particles.
)he "ater in the i%ture needs to be onitored to &uarantee sufficient
hydration of the ceent and also to ensure ade*uate "orkability of the i%.

COMPACTION TEST
)his laboratory test is perfored to deterine the
relationship bet"een the oisture content and the dry

In the Standard roctor )est! the soil is copacted by a 7#7lb haer fallin& a distance of one foot into a soil filled
old# )he old is filled "ith three e*ual layers of soil! and
each layer is subjected to :7 drops of the haer#
Based on the "hole set of results! a curve is plotted for thedry unit "ei&ht 'or density( as a function of the "ater
