Music Video Analysis

Genre – R&B Again similar to his other song, much of what the music video was depicted on screen and explained through

is lyrics. It was not difficult for the audience to gather what he is doing and what the video is trying to denote. From first sight we see the girl and see that she will be the object of his desire as the next shot acknowledges that he is interested in her. The whole of the music video was shot outside on the street at night. The music video describes his feelings there and now instead of it developing from place to place. This video was very creative with camera angles and shots, my favourite shot was the tracking medium shot of him and the girl dancing and Omarion following her at the same time. The concept wasn’t hard to grasp as explained before, he wants this girl who attracts his eye and he manages to get her.

The lighting was again contrasting with his other videos very low lighting was used, it was shot at night like his other videos. Props used were almost none except for his and her clothes. As they were dancing, singing and following each other the viewer could anticipate that this is going to lead somewhere. Which it did, it lead to the females which confirmed him reaching his aim of he song.

The name of the song “touch” could denote not being able to be in contact wit the girl he wants, this is why so much of the dancing as at a distant except for one time during the music video. However during that time he was disturbed by his girls friends arriving and he lost ‘touch’ with the girl, but after they left the dancing continued. This could be the motif denoted by lots of distance dancing.

The video was useful in terms of the motif put across, the idea of trying to get somewhere or get someone but being prevented by everything around them. The dance scenes could be something which could be used to help reinforce our motif and help us put across our ideas.

The beginning starts different from his other videos, normally they’re in his home but now it begins outside.

Again a girl is involved but this time we see the girl early on in the music video. The viewer actually sees the male character watch the girl, and as well as the story being told through the lyrics, the connotation is much more clearer visually.

He begins to follow her and an over the shoulder shot displays that. The audience can anticipate that there is going to be some dancing because of the attire they are wearing.

The dance scene begins and this is what we will be incorporating a lot in our music video. The use of the dancing while following the girl. The girl is dancing with him and this would eventually lead to the story. The camera shot is still similar to the others.

Unlike his other videos he is dancing alone. Normally he is with backing dancers but the ingredient which has stayed consistent Is the setting. In the street at night.

Various shots are used here to display his dancing. The shots are most medium shots and medium close ups. He is dancing in circles and this could be a good way to reinforce our motif of going round and round in circles but not progressing anywhere. This is something that we could possibly use to strengthen our aimed connotations in our music video. It begins with a medium shot of his body and ends wit a medium close up of his feet, going around in circles.

This close up the one of first of his face singing the lyrics. The audience can tell that he is still in the same place he is dancing in by the Mise en Scene of the garage and lamppost behind him. He is still in the street.

Because our main idea is to film a lot of him dancing and following her, this kind of tracking could be used constructively in our video.

The dancing stops and they get close, this is a good shot that we could use because our song revolves around the girl being unreachable but there is some moments where he can get close to her. There always is a distraction or something in the way. The camera shot changes into a point of view shot, and he hides.

There is a momentary stop in dancing but after the ‘obstacle’ which prevents him from being with her, the dancing and song restarts.

The dancing begins, but now there is backing dancers with him. The dancing begins when the chorus starts, rarely in R&B videos there is long group dance during singing.

This is near the end an from the video the audience can gather that he managed to get the girl he wanted, this was shown by him noticing her outside the club. Following her and expressing his feelings towards her through dance and lyrics.
