• OM3 fiber was developed supporting 10 GbE up to300 meter and standardized from 2002 (TIA / IEC)with EMB 2000 MHz.km @850 nm

• Major multimode fibre manufacturers started OM3fiber production

• Superior class showed to be available (subset ofOM3), offered as higher grade with min. EMB of 4700 MHz.km

• Major multimode manufacturers secured related tightDMD specs by improved High Resolution DMDmeasurement accuracy (~0.004 ps/m)

• Several premises cablers incorporated this productin their portfolio

IEEE 802.3ba January 2008Draka Comteq | Optical Fibre 8

Advantage OM4 fiber in IEEE 802.3ba:

• Extend link distances and margin • Enhance the 40G and 100G MMF specs

Foreseen activity in component standardization on positive feedback from application standards bodies:

Revision of optical fibre standards:- TIA/EIA-492AAAC (850-nm laser-optimized, 50 µm MMF) e.g. add new specification

Note: a draft 492AAAD exists from the work on TSB-172Committee: TIA FO-4.2 TIA TR42.12 in 02/08

- IEC 60793-2-10, A1a.2 (850-nm laser-optimized, 50 µm MMF) e.g. add new type A1a.3

Support conclusions in kolesar_01_1107:

• Create a more forward looking OM4 fiberspecification, based on years of production experience

• Recommend to consider the impact of this fiber ontransceiver relaxations to provide useful solutionsto the customer

• Support migration from data center to LAN
