I was born in the darkest ignorance, and my spiritualmaster opened my eyes with the torch of knowledge. Ioffer my respectful obeisances unto him. When will SrilaRupa Gosvami Prabhupada, who has established withinthis material world the mission to fulfill the desire ofLord Caitanya, give me shelter under his lotus feet?

The incarnations of each yuga are of differentcolor. The colors are white, red, black and yellow. In the Dväpara-yuga, Lord Krishna in black colorappeared, and in the Kali-yuga Lord Caitanya inyellow color appeared.

Krishna trying to understand Radha’s love for Him

BiographiesThe early life of the Lord is mostfascinatingly expressed by Vrndavanadasa Thakura, the author of Chaitanya-bhagavata, and as far as the teachings areconcerned, they are more vividlyexplained in the Chaitanya-caritamata bySrila Krsnadasa Kaviraja Gosvami. Nowthey are available to the English-speakingpublic in our Teachings of Lord Caitanya.

The Lord's early life was recorded by oneof His chief devotees and contemporaries, namely Srila Murari Gupta, a medicalpractitioner of that time, and the latter partof the life of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu wasrecorded by His private secretary SriDamodara Gosvami, or Srila SvarupaDamodara, who was practically a constantcompanion of the Lord at Puri.

The servants of God urge people tobecome devotees of the Lord. Theynever tolerate being called God. SriCaitanya Mahaprabhu was GodHimself, but He played the part of adevotee. When people addressedHim as God, He used to block Hisears with His hands and chant thename of Lord Vishnu. He stronglyprotested against being called God,although undoubtedly He was GodHimself.

Shiva said to Devi: "In the Kali-yuga, I shall preachthe Mayavada philosophy, which is nothing butclouded Buddhism, in the garb of a brahmana."

Let me surrender unto the Personality of Godheadwho has appeared now as Lord Sri CaitanyaMahaprabhu. He is the ocean of all mercy and hasnow come down to teach us material detachment, learning and devotional service to Himself.

The meeting of Radha and Krishnaduring this occasion (Kurukshetra) isa very pathetic story, and Lord SriChaitanya, in the ecstasy ofRadharani, always pined for Lord SriKrishna at Jagannatha Puri.

24 years at Puri

Lord Chaitanya traveled throughthe central Indian jungles, enlightening even the tigers, bears, snakes, deer, elephants andmany other jungleanimals. In this ageof Kali, sannyasi isforbidden for ordinary men.

Junior HaridasThe ideal sannyasiwas Lord CaitanyaHimself, and we canlearn from His lifethat He was very strict.

No Change RequiredLord Caitanya has said thatin this age no one needs tochange his position, but oneshould give up the endeavorto understand the AbsoluteTruth by speculativereasoning. One should learnto become the servant ofthose who are in knowledgeof the Supreme Lord.

Lord Caitanya said that one who is master inthe science of Krishna consciousness, regardlessof his social position, is the real spiritualmaster.

PrakasanandaThe Lord smilinglyexplained to thedevotee brahmanawhy the Mayavadicannot utter the holyname of Krishna.

Glory to the Sri Krishna sankirtana, whichcleanses the heart of all the dustaccumulated for years and extinguishesthe fire of conditional life, of repeated birthand death. This sankirtana movement isthe prime benediction for humanity at largebecause it spreads the rays of thebenediction moon. It is the life of alltranscendental knowledge. It increases theocean of transcendental bliss, and itenables us to fully taste the nectar forwhich we are always anxious.

O my Lord, Your holy name alone canrender all benediction to living beings, andthus You have hundreds and millions ofnames like Krishna and Govinda. In thesetranscendental names You have investedall Your transcendental energies. Thereare not even hard and fast rules forchanting these names. O my Lord, out ofkindness You enable us to easilyapproach You by chanting Your holynames, but I am so unfortunate that I haveno attraction for them.

One should chant the holy name ofthe Lord in a humble state of mind, thinking oneself lower than the strawin the street; one should be moretolerant than a tree, devoid of allsense of false prestige, and ready tooffer all respect to others. In such astate of mind one can chant the holyname of the Lord constantly.

O almighty Lord, I have no desire toaccumulate wealth, nor do I desirebeautiful women, nor do I want anynumber of followers. I only wantYour causeless devotional servicebirth after birth.

O son of Maharaja Nanda [Krishna], Iam Your eternal servitor, yetsomehow or other I have fallen intothe ocean of birth and death. pleasepick me up from this ocean of deathand place me as one of the atoms ofYour lotus feet.

O my Lord, when will my eyes bedecorated with tears of love flowingconstantly when I chant Your holyname? When will my voice choke up,and when will the hairs of my bodystand on end at the recitation of Yourname?

O Govinda! Feeling Your separation,I am considering a moment to be liketwelve years or more. Tears areflowing from my eyes like torrents ofrain, and I am feeling all vacant in theworld in Your absence.

I know no one but Krishna as myLord, and He shall remain so even ifHe handles me roughly in Hisembrace or makes me brokenheartedby not being present before me. Heis completely free to do anything andeverything, for He is always myworshipful Lord unconditionally.

Lord Caitanya wasappreciated by RupaGoswami as the mostmunificent incarnationbecause love ofKrishna, which is verydifficult to achieve, wasdistributed freely byHim.

Lord Caitanya accepts all kinds of sinful personson the one condition that they promise not toindulge in sinful habits after being spirituallyinitiated by the bona fide spiritual master.

FollowersMany devotees of Lord Caitanya like SrilaVrndavana dasa Thakura, Sri Locana dasaThakura, Srila Krsnadasa Kaviraja, SriKavikarnapura, Sri Prabodhananda Sarasvati, SriRüpa Gosvami, Sri Sanatana GosvamI, SriRaghunätha Bhatta GosvamI, Sri Jiva Gosvami,Srii Gopäla Bhatta Gosvami, Sri Raghunätha dasaGosvamI, Sri Visvanatha Cakravarté, Sri BaladevaVidyabhüsana, Sri Syamnanda Gosvami, SriNarottama däsa Thakura, Sri BhaktivinodaThakura and at last Sri Bhaktisiddhanta SarasvatiThakura (our spiritual master) and many othergreat and renowned scholars and devotees of theLord have prepared voluminous books andliteratures on the life and precepts of the Lord.

Such literatures are all based on the sastras likethe Vedas, Puranas, Upanishads, Ramayana,Mahabharata and other histories and authenticliteratures approved by the recognized acaryas. They are unique in composition and unrivaled inpresentation, and they are full of transcendentalknowledge. Unfortunately the people of the worldare still ignorant of them, but when theseliteratures, which are mostly in Sanskrit andBengali, come to light the world and when they arepresented before thinking people, then India'sglory and the message of love will overflood thismorbid world, which is vainly searching afterpeace and prosperity by various illusory methodsnot approved by the acaryas in the chain ofdisciplic succession.

Universal ReligionThe teaching of Caitanya philosophy isricher than any other, and it is the livingreligion of the day with the potency forspreading as visva-dharma, or universalreligion. We are glad that the matter hasbeen taken up by some enthusiastic sageslike Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati GosvamiMaharaja and his disciples. We shalleagerly wait for the happy days ofBhagavata-dharma, or prema-dharma,inaugurated by the Lord Sri CaitanyaMahaprabhu.
