JULY 2021

Batter Up!An Olympics wouldn’t be normal not to have baseball. We have two boards so we can have four teams playing at one time. Our Olympic Beanbag Baseball will be held on July 20th, at 2:30 p.m., in the Lobby.

The boards are available during the weekends to practice. We have some outstanding players at The Peaks that can help teach you. It is played as the same rules as regular baseball. Batter up!

Beach VolleyballVolleyball — one thinks of being on a sandy beach, barefoot, swimsuits, trunks, beach umbrellas, and getting hot.

Our Beach Volleyball will be indoors in the Lobby with a beach ball, a net and even chairs. Yes, we are going to try sitting in chairs strategically placed to bounce the ball back and forth. We will do a few practice runs before we actually play the game for the Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals.

Olympic Water Balloon Toss

Our Olympic Water Balloon Toss will consist of Teams of four that must carefully hand off or toss the water balloon to the next team member and so on. The object of the game is to send 10 water balloons down the line and into your team bucket. The first team to get all 10 safely in the bucket, wins!

What will the team do with their water balloon afterwards? Well, the most fun would be to have a water fight or have the Activity Coordinator be a target. Wear light clothing as we all may get wet!

OutingsLast month, we went to Madera Canyon, the second time since last year. The bus was filled with many happy faces. We did bird and turkey watching at the Madera Canyon Cabins and Gift Shop. There are more species of hummingbirds in Arizona than anywhere else in the world. We had so much fun and it actually was cool even though it was a 110 degrees in Green Valley that day.

This month our outings consist of traveling to Casino del Sol for lunch and Bingo and whatever game suits you, Flandrau Planetarium Desert Meadows Park, and a Mystery Trip that you won’t want to miss.

The Flandrau Planetarium entrance fee for seniors is $10 per person. Barbara collects the money a week before the trip. We will go out to lunch afterwards. We will decide as a group at the Activity and Resident Meeting on Thursday, July 1st, of our choice of restaurants so I can make reservations for us.

The Mystery Trip — you will need to bring lunch money and our destination we will be indoors so you won’t need a jacket.

Desert Meadows Park was created by resident volunteers and what a beautiful job they have done. While we are there, we will also pick an assortment of flowers and leaves to use for our Botanical Sun Prints for painting on Tuesday, July 27th, at 2:15 p.m., in the Lobby. Desert Meadows created a human sun dial to tell time. They have nicely labeled all the cacti, plants, and flowers. They built an outdoor waterproof little library. They built a butterfly bird house. There is an open eating area for a picnic with a door to enter in to the area, and the park is filled with walking trails, gazebos, and plenty of comfy seating with swings. There is so much to see there as they keep adding new items, like the pet and loved ones memorial.

Come along on our adventures!

Welcome to The Peaks! We would like to give a big and warm welcome to our new residents:

• Judith G.

• Darlene N.

• Tom and Tina R.

• John and Mary Ann R.

We look forward to getting to know you and we want to welcome you to your new home and The Peaks family.

Learn About TokyoOn Tuesday, July 6th, at 3 p.m., during our 3:00 Cookie Club, we will learn all about Tokyo, Japan where the Summer Olympics are being held. Tokyo is a vibrant city full of history and fun!

We will celebrate with fun facts about Tokyo, Brainstorm puzzles, learn a few key phrases with Japanese phrases with pronunciation, and some Minute It to Win It games! You won’t want to miss out.

Other EventsHorseshoe game is our equestrian game on Wednesday, July 14th.

Javelin throw — we use pool noodles for a target with nine noodles taped together and a pool noodle to throw through the hoops. It is on Wednesday, July 28th.

The watermelon contest is a Minute To Win It. Your team wins if you are the first to eat the most watermelon in a minute and you win the Gold!

The Putt-Putt Challenge has been modified to play in the Lobby. You putt as many golf balls into the hole over an allotted time, and you win the Gold for your team.

Everyone can participate in our fun Summer Olympics!
