As we enter the thanksgiving season let us give thanks for all we have. The TCDSB is celebrating the year of charity. Charity can be as simple as the giving of time to an individual or organization. Our student leaders have been empowered through the Me to We Movement to give of themselves to others. It is our sincere hope that we can all find time to do some acts of charity this Thanksgiving Season. Sincerely, Ms. Filicetti & Mr. Kwon OCTOBER is a time for giving THANKS ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT UPDATE Congratulations to the Wisdom Warriors Softball Teams. Both girls and boys teams displayed excellent sportsmanship and perseverance during their divisional tournaments... and had lots of fun learning the game of softball! [Girls Team: Ana, Arpsima, Bluajah, Catherine, Jaicyanna, Jessica, Jordanna, Kianna, Maeve, Marissa, Maya and Rachel - Boys Team: Allen, Christopher, Daniel, Dillon, Ethan, Gabriel, Grant, Jayden, Joshua A., Joshua C., Malachi, Michael, Robert and Ryan] Our Lady of Wisdom's Running Club (Club Coureurs) has been alternating mornings at Willowfield Gardens these past few weeks. Children have been training for distances of 1500m up to 3000m. We congratulate all Warriors who have been able to attend and encourage others to join us! Training begins at 8:15am and will continue to run until further notice. Cross-Country try-outs will begin the first week of October during the lunch recesses. Once again, 16 children (8 girls and 8 boys) will be selected according to their fastest qualifying times. Our divisional meet is scheduled for October 16th, 2014. Let's pray for some nice weather and best of luck to all of our competitors!

STUDENT VOTE DAY On October 23rd, 2014 students in grades 6-8, together with over 100,000 students will participate in the Student Vote Municipal and School Board Elections program and have a Student Vote Day along with 900 other schools across the provide from approximately 200 municipalities. The program’s aim is to provide youth with an opportunity to experience first hand the democratic process and “practice the habits informed and engaged citizenship” by learning more about electoral politics and operations and impact of government at varying levels. The program coincides with the Catholic Graduate expectations, specifically, helping students to become “A reflective, creative and holistic thinker who solves problems and makes responsible decisions with an informed moral conscience for the common good.” Students will take on the responsibilities of election officials and conduct a parallel municipal and/or school board election. The results of the election will be publicized on the Student Vote website, www.studentvote.ca/oncivic 2014. Students will be engaged in a variety of cross-curricular learning activities in the areas of math, social studies, history and language arts as they interact with candidate information the Canadian Charter and facts about Toronto.
