Here are some highlights for families to note: Our plan is to continue morning temperature checks in the loops. Please continue to stack vehicles. We will begin opening doors and starting the loop traffic at 7:40 a.m. to allow us extra time for dropoff. We will begin dismissal at 2:40 p.m. to allow extra time until our routine is set. The keys to any of our plans this year have been PRAYER, FLEXIBILITY, and PATIENCE. We will continue to count on those keys from all of our community. There will be a Pet Blessing on Friday, October 2, but with some modifications from past events. Our Kindergarten through 3rd graders will have the Pet Blessing in the front loop at 1:30 p.m. Parents are invited to bring family pets, but all parents and students will need to maintain social distancing protocols. Masks will be required for parents and students, even though we will be outdoors. That same day, 4th through 8th graders will have their Pet Blessing in the back loop, starting at 2:00 p.m. Again the same rules for social distancing and mask wearing apply. Parents with younger and older children will want to arrive for the 1:30 p.m. front-loop session and plan on staying for the 2:00 p.m. back-loop blessing. The Fall Scholastic Book Fair will be virtual/online and will run from Monday, October 19 through Sunday, November 1. Mrs. Birecki will have more details coming about this opportunity to purchase books for your family and support All Saints. On October 30, we will have our traditional Halloween parade for Kindergarten through 3rd graders, starting at 11:00 a.m. If the weather cooperates, we will have the parade in the back loop, and parents will be able to attend by wearing masks and social distancing. If the weather is inclement, we will hold the parade indoors for students only. However, parents will be able to see their students in costume during a livestream feed of the indoor parade. Because of the uncertainty of COVID-19, we are publishing events a month in advance to allow for scheduling flexibility. We will be working on plans for November. Thank you for your patience and cooperation during this time. School photos are scheduled for Wednesday, October 7 and Thursday, October 8, once all of our in-person students are in the building five days a week. Our remote students will have their photos taken on Wednesday, October 7 at All Saints. Students A-K will run from 3:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., and students L-Z will be from 4:45 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Please see the sheet at the end of this newsletter for the in-person student photo schedule. Participants must pre-register as they would for in-person sessions.

Catholic Central Hosts Rummage SaleThe Catholic Central Mothers’ Club is again hosting its annual rummage sale – their largest community outreach event of the year. This event not only benefits the community at large, but also has a lot of tradition, a huge following and is fun! The group receives donations of all types, such as clothing, shoes, crafts, books, jewelry, toys, electronics, sporting goods, housewares, and opens their doors for value shopping. This is an opportunity for the community to shop for gently used items for unbeatable prices.

The Rummage Sale will be held on Saturday October 10, 2020, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Catholic Central main gym, located at 27225 Wixom Road, Novi, MI 48374. Donations will be accepted on Friday, October 9, 2020 from 7:00 a m- to 7:00 p m They accept gently used clothing, shoes for all ages and household items. If you have any questions, please contact this year’s co-chair, ASCS alumni mom, Michelle Tomaszek ([email protected] or 734-634-8947).

St. Vincent de Paul Clothing Drive Coming to ResurrectionAll Saints families are invited to participate in the St. Vincent de Paul fall clothing drive on October 14-16. Donations benefit the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Metro Detroit - https://svdpdetroit.org/ The storage pod for donation drop-off will be located at Resurrection Parish’s parking lot from Wednesday, October 14 to Sunday, October 18. During school days, there will be a volunteer from 7:30-8:30 a.m. during drop-off, and from 2:30-3:30 p.m. for afternoon pickup to help receive donations. The pod door will be closed, but unlocked at other times. You may still drop off donations at your convenience.

All kinds of clothing, shoes, personal accessories, etc. will be accepted. Donated items should be in clean, gently used condition, and placed in bags or boxes. Receipts will be available for your charitable donation records.

Because of limited space, we cannot accept large furniture & appliances, TV, or other bulky items. (But small items such as kitchenware, counter-top appliances, toys, end-tables that can be carried by one person are fine.) Please call toll-free, 877-788-4623 or email a request to [email protected], to arrange for home pick-up of large items. The SVDP provides prompt, courteous, free pick-up service.

Mrs. Nicholas’ 4th grade science classes built catapults this past week. The students’ goal was to experiment with the catapults’ design, test their initial efforts, and then improve performance. Next week, the classes will launch various items from the catapults while outdoors. The students will get experience in making a claim, collecting and reporting data, and then providing the reasoning behind their findings. This project will help the 4th graders gain a better understanding of how to conduct an experiment and report results.

Classroom Happenings

In science this past week, All Saints Kindergarten students learned what living things need and what people need to do to care for pets. The class learned that dogs need a lot of things, including shelter. The students used toothpicks and Play-Doh to create their own dog houses. The children said this was their favorite activity so far this year!

Parents must turn in the online learning permission form in order for their child to participate in hybrid, online, and remote learning this year. All Saints’ provider for specials instruction, Berkley Public Schools, is requiring all students to have a completed permission form on file. Even if your child will be in the building, we need this form on hand to accommodate potential distance learning scenarios. Parents can complete the form and email it to Michele Santillan at [email protected] or can print this form, found at the end of this newsletter, and return it on Tuesday.

Parent Permission Forms for Online Learning Need to Be Returned

All Saints students and staff members participated in the National Day of Prayer and Fasting on Thursday. Our classes visited the Chapel and prayed that God will guide and unite our country and bring peace to our hearts. Many of our families prayed from home and asked for God’s grace. Some of our Kindergarten students even joined our 8th graders during Adoration time.
