Who can walk?

• Students must register before participating• There is no cost to participate• A Yellow Flag is displayed on days the Walking

School Bus is available• The flag is removed when the bus departs,

signaling to parents they have missed the bus but can join the group enroute

Where did the grant come from?• The Walking School Bus is supported through

a grant from PED NET Coalition. This non-profit organization works to promote

• 15 schools in Kansas received grants to develop a Walking School Bus program

Our Staging Point

• Thanks to the Hays Parks Department for allowing the staging point to be located at Massey Park

• Massey Park provides ample parking for parents dropping off students for the bus

• Massey Park is located .8 miles from O’Loughlin School, just a 20 minute walk!

• Currently, we have 19 students registered for the O’Loughlin Walking School Bus

• Our goal is 60 students – additional volunteers would be necessary to accommodate such a large group

• The Walking School Bus will walk from September 2nd through October 29 and will resume operation April through May, 2015

Volunteers are needed• In addition to Mrs.

Tramel, volunteers walk with the students each day

• Volunteers serve as extra eyes and ears for traffic

• Volunteers include parents and community leaders
