The Beginning

• Animation begun with very primitive machine/toy called a Thaumatrope, it is a disc with one image on each side when you spin it an image in animated. This is called ‘two frame animation’.

20th Century In the 1910s Cel animation or hand drawing animation was being used to make animations. Even in current animation a storyboard must be done for an animation and the 20th century was no exception. First the dialogue and script are made then later a comic style storyboard is drawn. This would have been re-drawn, switched round and changed many times. A modern day storyboard for a big animation takes upto 2 years. In the 20th century each frame was drawn one at a time with pencil, each frame was taken on a technical camera almost like the modern day scanners we have today. Drawing each frame then photographing it properly so the animation is smooth is a very long and hard process.

The Future Of Animation• The future of animation lies with 3d

computer animation. I feel that Pixar are definitely in the lead. Pixar is very successful because they’re good at targeting dual audiences for their movies. When parents go see a movie with their children and normally they are not entertained but when they see a Pixar movie there is a child like character that kids can enjoy as well as a great storyline that deals with a subject close to the parents viewing the movie. Also they use great technology and put a lot of time and care into what they do!
