I believe that the arts teach valuable skills in problem solving and decision-making. Art education encourages student to seek out creative solutions, to think “outside of the box”. This enables students to develop and use their creative potential, to see the value of their own ideas and feelings, and to respect those of others. WHY STUDY MUSIC?Studies have shown that students who participate in music education have higher academic standing and test scores.

AN AWARD-WINNING PROGRAMOA’s Fine Arts program provides an excellent education while developing a lifelong love of the arts. Students perform in chorus, Academy Singers, and orchestra, and have the opportunity to participate in private instrument lessons, private voice lessons, music appreciation, and music theory. OA is the only school in Southeast Indiana with a string program and pep orchestra. Our electronic music lab allows young maestros to create their own compositions and practice their music reading skills. Students enjoy celebrating Fine Arts Week each year. OA is a great place to grow and develop your creative skills or discover a talent you didn’t even know you had!

ADOPT-A-SISOA students have an amazing opportunity to join in fellowship with a Franciscan Sister. Students enjoy this time with the Sister they are matched up with during their lunch about every other week. Over 75% of our student population participates in this club! Only at OA!

CAMPUS MINISTRY CLUBOA students are invited to be involved in this community building club. Students who are involved, will be volunteering to help lead/prepare retreats and school Masses. Students also help to plan Reconciliation services, Catholic Schools Week and service opportunities for the student body. If students have other ideas of spiritual opportunities they want at OA, this is the place to get them started!

EUCHARISTIC MINISTER/LECTOR TRAININGOA students may attend a training session that includes information on the history of these ministries, and the important responsibility of Church members to take on these roles. Students are certified to participate in these capacities at OA liturgies.

PRAYEREach day, and each class begins with prayer. Prayer also takes place at other school events such as Mass, retreats, sporting events, and meetings. This is our daily link to God and is encouraged at OA.

RETREATSStudents participate in annual retreats during their four years at OA. Juniors and seniors have overnight retreats.

SERVICEIn keeping with our Franciscan philosophy of living lives in service of others and our mission statement of developing leaders committed to social responsibility, sixty hours of service and volunteer activities are expected of all students who graduate from Oldenburg Academy. Students will have the opportunity to participate in March for Life trips, blood drives, food drives, soup kitchens, volunteering at hospitals/nursing homes, tutoring others, and mission trips.

Our 4-year religion curriculum, retreat program, and monthly school Masses play a vital role that inspires the faith formation of each student.
