OWA NEWS

The Old Woodridgean Community continues to grow from strength to strength and there are more and more Old

Boys and Girls enrolling their children at Woodridge to experience the wonderfully unique education on offer.

At present there are 63 Old Woodridgean children who attend Woodridge from Pre-School through to Matric.

Branch Visits

In March we had a very successful visit to the Western Cape. Times Café was the venue for the Cape Town folk

and the University students from UCT and Stellenbosch met up at the Trumpet Tree in Stellenbosch. To date, this

has been the best attendance from the ‘youngsters’ with over 40 Old Woodridgeans gathering together. What

a wonderful evening it was!

The Johannesburg crowd reunited at Molly Malones in October. It was wonderful to see so many people

attend and spend the night sharing great memories about the time they spent at Woodridge!

The Reunion Weekend

The Reunion Weekend was held from Thursday, 5th ~ Saturday, 7th July.

Thursday night saw close to 100 people catch up in the Woodpecker. Friday was the ‘long day’ for many, after

a late night followed by a mid-morning tee off! The fitter Old Woodridgeans took to the sports fields on

Saturday afternoon, forgetting that it had been a good few years since they had last played hockey and

rugby

This year, the entire reunion weekend

showed record attendances. The 30, 20

and 10 year groups must be

congratulated on making such a great

effort to get old classmates together.

OWA Golf Day was held on Friday, 6th July at Hankey Golf

Club. The school bus transported a full field to

Hankey and returned them safely back to the

Woodpecker for supper and Prize-giving.

OWA Cricket Day was held on Saturday, 13th October.

Three full sides arrived for a wonderful day of cricket, laughs and bantering!

Scores were as follows:-

1st XI ~ OW’s 285/9

Woodridge 190 all out

Old Boys won by 95 runs

2nd XI ~ Woodridge 109 all out

OW’s 111/9

Old Boys won by 1 wicket

3rd XI ~ Old Boys won both 20/20

The Premier 500 Club continues to be our main fundraising effort. Three draws are held during the year and the

◄ Congratulations Mark & Michelle Archibald! Jamie Ryan Colin Archibald was born on the 12th Nov ’12.

He weighed 3,61 kg's and was 50 cm's at birth.

Mommy (Michelle) and Jamie are doing very well, and say

that they are just over the moon to be parents.

GENERAL UPDATES OF OLD WOODRIDGEANS

Parrish Pryce-Williams (1993)

“Still based in London with my wife Kate, but we've also spent quite a bit of

time in France this year. We have been enjoying life as new parents with

our son, Zachary.

◄ Zach is 18 months old and to add to the fun we're expecting our

second to arrive early April '13 and the plan is to bring the family to the

Woodridge Reunion next year.

Do get in touch if you're ever in the UK or France - it will be great to see

you!”

Chris Arderne (2009) and his Stellenbosch University Residence (Wilgenhof)

friends are doing a 67-day overland truck trip through Africa in December and

January. This is a trip that the students have put together every few years and

is not only a magnificent experience for them all, but also has a wonderful

purpose.

Have a look at their fun video, they will be providing crutches for landmine

victims, plus taking mosquito nets/pencils and any other things they can into

Africa, to try and assist!

They have also been sponsored a beautiful telescope so will be teaching

astronomy as well as learning from the locals about their take on the stars and

galaxy.

Axel Stuurman (1987) and his wife Alena (born in Soviet Belarus) met in the USA.

They have since lived in France, Australia, Germany, the US, Amsterdam, Paris and

Belarus.

◄ Our last big change came with our daughter, Tiiu (Estonian for

“little bird”).

Expired visas (only Tiiu is a US citizen) and free babysitting from an extremely

cool Gogo still in Stellenbosch, temporarily enticed us back to a not-so-sunny SA,

where we have been now for a slither over a year. Specifically, in the cultural

black hole of Somerset West – selber schuld.

★ Sean McGeorge (2000) has been selected as one of the five winners of the 2012 Academy Nicholl Fellowships

in Screenwriting competition. The winners were selected from a record 7,197 scripts submitted for the

competition. This is the first time a South African has been selected as one of the winners.
