Old Bar Public School Success by the Sea Newsletter Principal’s Message What a wonderful, busy term it has been! Staff have done an amazing job organising and implementing so many fun activities that enrich and enhance the learning experi- ences of our students. As we head into term 4, we start to think about the year ahead (yes, I’m talking about 2015!) and putting together a management plan that identifies our school priorities. Some of you have received surveys that look at focus areas in our school. How are we travelling? Are you pleased with the education and leader- ship in the school? How can we improve upon our performance? What’s important to you and your family? Your opinions are impor- tant to us. We value your feedback and we listen to your ideas. You DO have a voice! Please take the time to complete the surveys and know that we value your support. Road Safety Earlier in the year I implemented a policy to protect students on bikes and scooters, leaving the school in the afternoon. Due to the heavy pe- destrian traffic (and the bus timeta- ble) we have made a rule that NO students should leave the school grounds on a bike or scooter un- til bus 34 pulls out of the bus bay. Bus 34 generally leaves at around 3.07pm. Previously, the bus driv- ers have expressed concern at the way children are riding dangerously when leaving the school grounds. This strategy has helped to mini- mise risk to students. Lately, some students have been ‘sneaking’ out the gate before the bus leaves. This is a very dangerous prac- tice. Please talk to your children about this important safety issue! Communication I’ve often talked about effective communication being the ‘key’ to healthy relationships within our school. If you or your child has an issue with another child or parent, PLEASE let us know. school grounds is not acceptable. By all means, listen to your child but be aware that there are always two sides to the story. Gathering information and talking to witness-es can result in a swift resolution and prevent unnecessary angst. Dealing with issues that develop between students and families is part of my job. I’m here to help.

Camp ElimCould Year 3 and 4 parents please complete permission and medi-cal notes for Camp Elim and re-turn them to school with your fi-nal payment by 24th October. Some student assistance fund-ing is available for this excursion.

MusicStudents from 2/3H, 3/4S, 3/4D, 3/4G and 4/5T have been offered an exciting opportunity to learn drum-ming at school next term for $2 per week. Reminder notes went home last Monday and a full payment of only $20 needs to be made by the end of term. I would like to encour-age all students from these classes to participate in this program as it has so many physical and develop-mental benefits besides creativity. It’s fun and your child will love it!
