Indochina• A peninsula in Southeast Asia lying roughly south or southwest of

China, and east of India.

Pearl Habor• U.S. naval station in Hawaii that the Japanese bombed after the U.S.

refused to lift sanctions against Japan. The bombing of naval station resulted in the U.S. declaring war on Japan, and Germany declaring war on the U.S.

Manhattan Project• The secretly development of an atomic bomb in the United States

during WWII.

D-Day• English, American, and Canadian forces launched their biggest

offensive, landing of the beaches of Normandy, and with the help of French resistance forces helped liberate France.

Harry Truman• United States president that authorized the bombing of Hiroshima

and Nagasaki in Japan, forcing Japan surrendering and ending WWII.

Hiroshima• First city in Japan that an atomic bomb was dropped on by the United

States.

Nagasaki• Second city in Japan that an atomic bomb was dropped on by the

United States.

Holocaust• Known as the "Final Solution" in Nazi Germany, one of the largest acts

of genocide in history against Jews, Slavs, Gypsies, homosexuals, disabled people, and political dissidents in Germany and German-occupied territories.

Marshall Plan• Plan instituted by the United States that billions of dollars were made

available for reconstruction for all European countries (only accepted by Western European nations).
