    GUIDELINES FOR CONDUCT & EVALUATION OF

    SUMMER PROJECT OF MBA STUDENTSSchool of Management

    KIIT University Bhubaneswar751024

    Summer Project is an integral part of the 24 months MBA programme of KSOM, KIIT University. The

    period for the training is eight weeks, tentatively from May 1st to 30th

    June, 2011. Students are notallowed to change the organization of training assigned to him/ her without prior written permission ofthe Dean/ OJT-Coordinator. In case such a thing happens the summer project will be considered asinvalid.

    1. Objectives of the Summer Project:1.1 To provide an extensive exposure to the student on hands-on experience in a corporate

    environment or research activity.

    1.2.To ensure that the corporate gets adequate return from the students in terms of the money andtime it spends on them during the training so that there is a mutual return of experience andlearning.

    1.3. To provide a platform for the corporate to test the reliability, quality and performance of thestudents and make a match for final job offer later if they so deem fit.

    2. Supervision:

    During the training the student will be under the supervision of a person in the organization who will actas his/her corporate guide. He/she will provide guidelines on how the student should work duringhis/her stay with the organization. In addition, each student will be guided by a faculty of KSOM. Thestudent will be required to report to the faculty guide immediately after joining the company for theproject (Annexure No.-01) and every fortnight in a prescribed format (Annexure No.-02).

    The student is required to meet the faculty guide before departing for the summer training andtake necessary instructions from him/her.

    2.1. The faculty guide will consult the corporate guide from time to time for obtaining information

    on the progress of the Project work of the student.2.2. The faculty guide, if required, may also visit (with prior approval of Dean) the

    corporate/ company where the summer internship is being carried out to facilitate andstrengthen the learning process.

    3. Conduct/Discipline:

    The students are required to abide by the rules of the organization where they are undergoing theirtraining.

    3.1. The Corporate organization will be taking a strong view of the punctuality and behavior of the

    student during the training and therefore the student is required to be on his/her best behaviorand inculcate the good norms of the organization.

    3.2. In case a student has to take leave of absence, he/she has to take necessary permission from the

    organization and the faculty guide before he/she proceeds on leave.

    3.3. In case the student is to take up project based work at the instance of the company he/sheshould conduct it to his/her best capabilities under the guidance of the faculty/corporate guide.

    3.4. Student should not try to copy or use information in such a way that will project falseand baseless conclusion for the company. All students are required to maintain strictconfidentiality of any information they come across in the organizations in course oftheir training. The student involved in any malpractice shall be duly penalized.

    4. Project Report:

    All the students have to prepare and submit a written project report at the end of the training. This is notnecessarily a statistical or analytical report; it could be learning and experience sharing too. The projectreport will have to be certified by the organization. Detailed guidelines for writing Project report shall begiven at the time of Orientation for the Summer Project. However, the report shall include the following:

    Certificate from the organizationDeclaration (Certificate) by the candidateAcknowledgementExecutive summaryContentsIntroductionBackground of the ProjectProject Objectives

    Project Design & MethodologyAction Plan, Limitations of the ProjectChapters on the Project findings & AnalysisConclusions and RecommendationsBibliographyAnnexure would include financial data, Questionnaire etc.

    4.1. Last Date of Submission of the project report:

    All the students will be required to submit a draft report on OJT on the date of registration forthe second year. This will be followed by evaluation of the final written report by the facultyguide and a presentation before the panel consisting of two faculty members (which includesfaculty guide). Students will be given 10 days to incorporate the recommendations/ suggestionsgiven during the evaluation of presentation. Accordingly, the final reports will be due for finalsubmission on the 10th day from the date of presentation.

    5. The Project evaluation criteria:

    5.1. Evaluation by the Corporate Guide:

    The project will not be considered for evaluation if the same is not certified by the corporate guide as

    original and authentic.

    The score by the corporate guide would be used only for qualifying requirement and not for gradingpurpose.

    5.2. Evaluation by the Faculty Guide

    A. Fortnightly Reports : 15%a. Three fortnightly reports : 5% each

    B. Final Report : 50%a. Objective : 5%b. Review of Literature / text : 10%c. Methodology : 10%d. Survey / Data gathering & Analysis : 10%e. Logical sequence of organizing the report : 10%f. Finding & Conclusion : 5%

    C. Presentation : 35%a. Logical flow of presentation : 10%b. Oral Communication : 10%c. Self Confidence : 5%d. Answer to questions : 10%

    Incase significant difference in rating given by the faculty guide and the other faculty-membersrepresenting the panel is found, then it will be referred to the OJT committee for necessarymoderation.

    5.3. Composite Evaluation and Grading

    The final gradation of the report will include the scores obtained from all the components asmentioned above and the score obtained from presentation-panel comprising two facultymembers. Marks obtained will be converted to Grades and then to Grade Points.

    Students have to score a minimum C grade, which is the pass grade, failing which he/she has torepeat their summer project again, so as to be eligible for their MBA Degree.
