How do oil spills affect the number of endangered marine species in our
oceans? Our hypothesis: The number of oil spills affects the
marine species negatively. Reason being, every time there is a major oil spill, there is much marine life being “oiled” and exposed to dangerous oil.

All Variables
Number of Oil Spills per country. Number of Endangered Marine/Aquatic species per
country. Unemployment Rate per country.

What do we know about Oil Spills?
Oil spills are the accidental (or sometimes deliberate) waste or leakage of fossil fuels into the environment. It is extremely dangerous to the environment and the organisms there. It is mostly caused by human error although there are natural oil seeps that occur in the oceans.

What do we know about Endangered Species?
A species that is approaching or is on the brink of extinction. We also know that it is sometimes due to human negligence.

Hypothesis
As the number of oil spills increases, so does the number of endangered marine species. This is due to the danger of oil and fossil fuel. Also, the higher the number of oil spills, the higher the unemployment rate. This is due to the lost jobs after the accident.

Method
1. Research all variables.
2. Printed data from variables.
3. Created charts in excel from said data.
4. Began compiling conclusions and data.

First things first
• R2 value = .0297
• Shows almost no correlation. Which means, there is almost no effect on endangered marine animals from oil spills.
![Page 9: Oil spills v. Endangered aquatic species](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022081513/5681573e550346895dc4e466/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
Now.
• R2 value = .0012
• Shows almost no correlation. (we didn’t expect any)
![Page 10: Oil spills v. Endangered aquatic species](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022081513/5681573e550346895dc4e466/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
AAAAnd.
• R2 = .0009
• No correlation to one another.
• We expected this to have at least some relationship.

CONCLUSION?
There is no relationship between these variables.

Soooo.
In conclusion, there is no correlation between the number of oil spills, and number of endangered marine species. Nor is there any correlation between any of these variables.
Although, our original hypothesis was not confirmed, it does answer the question. Oil spills do not have a great effect on endangered marine life.
