CHARCTERSTICS OF A VPH SYSTEM FILTERVAC offers standard models with processing capacities ranging from as small as 50 USGPH (189 L) to as large as 3000 USGPH (11340 L). [Filtervac is able to manufacture larger units as well as custom designed systems to meet all the customers’ requirements.] The VPH System is designed as a self contained unit, mounted on a common base, fully assembled and ready for connection. The VPH System includes a filter, oil heater, vacuum chamber, oil and vacuum pumps and instrumentation. The control panel contains; vacuum and pressure gauges, switches, indicating lights, indicating temperature controller and alarm. The vacuum chamber is designed to maintain a vacuum of 1 TORR or less throughout the entire purification process. Oil at ambient or elevated temperature is introduced into the vacuum chamber where, by vacuum distillation, water, dissolved air and gases and other low boiling- range volatile contaminants are removed. The oil level is controlled by a fully modulating float-actuated level control valve and foam control is supplied as a standard feature. The processed oil is removed from the vacuum chamber by the discharge pump and returned to the transformer as purified oil. OIL PURIFICATION SYSTEMS FOR ELECTRICAL LIQUIDS

The FILTERVAC high vacuum thermally accelerated degasification process is a widely accepted and more economical method of treatment of electrical insulation fluids to increase and maintain their dielectric strength. The processing includes the removal of free and soluble water, free and dissolved air and gases and particulate matter. They VPH System upgrades the new or used electrical insulating liquids including transformer oils, askarels or polybutenes. The proper treatment and upgrading of the properties of the insulating media are essential for present and future transformer requirements.

APPLICATIONS

The foremost applications of high vacuum purification systems are in the field of extra high voltage transmission and in the manufacture of electrical apparatus for it. The VPH System is ideal for drying and filling new transformers at both the factory test and during field installation. In addition the VPH System is designed for reconditioning of insulating oils in service.

Many other applications for the high vacuum process exist such as its use in the degasification of cable oils including polybutenes. Outside of the electrical industry this process is used for degasification and dehydration of oils for radar and electronic equipment, vacuum pump seal oils, brake fluids, refrigeration oils - including phosphate esters and silicones.
